Title: truckmount rage
Post by: Steve Chapman on November 08, 2006, 05:54:33 pm
I had a grumpy old guy complain about my van & tm operating outside is house today, said was too noisy and disturbing him! :(

I apologised and he said he would call the police ??? ::)

I laughed, but he was really serious, obviously i was right in middle of a job so could'nt really go any where,  but it did make me wonder whether this upsets other people, it was fairly close to the houses, but it was a really narrow street so could'nt  be helped.

Does anyone else get this problem :-\

Not sure if he did call the police or not, but i did get the job finished super quick :D

regards
steve

I've had this once.
Let him call the police !. Theres is nothing they can do about it providing its within a reasonable time which I think is between 6.30am to 7.30 pm daily.

i've had this about 3 times in 7 years, one guy just got to bed after a night shift, an irish lady at 11pm threatened my truck-mount with a hammer, (i turned off within 5 minutes!!) and an older guy with a sick wife, 99% of people don't mind, especially this time of year when their windows are closed, i think it's more of a problem in the better weather with windows open.

Dose he go around on a Sunday telling everyone to stop mowing their lawns because of the noise.

Ignoor them, there's one in every street, unless its at an un-reasonable time he would be just waisting Police time.

Some people arent happy unless they have something to moan about, if it wasnt your machine it would have been the neighbours dog or kids playing football in the street! Remember every street in Britain has a grumpy old man, be carefull though or you may find your tm at the back of his shed with all the kids footballs!

With this sort of person moaning, i get it a fair bit-(your overhanging my drive! your parked where my space is etc etc) i usually stare at them til they are done moaning then smile and walk off. IF they persist then i turn and in a polite voice just say bo***x im way too busy making money to listen to a SOG-Sad old G*t to hear you! and carry on regardless. never had police attention but do get referrals from custy's who say ooh you put him in his place etc ;D It also works with heavy built guys aswell-they dont wanna risk a bruising so give up, go home and stew! Carry on what ya doing and smile(ya making money while they are stagnating!)

Please do remember to have respect for these old-uns. After all they won us two wars. Mind without these moaning minnies it wouldnt have taken us six years in the last one_the proper"quiet soldiers" would have got the job done quicker and would admire truckmounts etc and embrace technology and asked for a quote! ;D

Genuine questions from a porty owner who, when he grows up, may aspire to be a truckmounter:

i) is there such a thing as a quiet truckmount?
ii) which are the quieter truckmounts? (or which are the noisier?)

Hi

A Truckmount with a liquid cooled engine should be quieter.

Yes they are more complicated & more expensive.

have the pipes plumbed outside the van so you can shut the door, then its just a quite hum.

Carry some of those disposable ear plugs and hand them out to the old bvggers. Or simply say TURN IT DOWN. As they are all deaf you know.

I was told to go and knock a few doors up, down and across the road before you start. Apologise in advance for the noise, explain the reasons, i.e. carpets being cleaned, the most thorough and deep clean possible and pass them all a discount voucher. Don't know if it works yet, TM installed in 2 weeks. But it does seem a way of turning a negative to your advantage. :)

Only once tried all the diplomatic approaches, then my customer took over and punched him on the nose ;D, she said I’ve been dying to do that for years, ??? and then asked if I could run over a rug in the conservatory, what a wimp I am. :o

Peter

Like the old school of thought  ???but Sundays are out of the window.  But on the positive side can be no parking restrictions? ;D One excuse I’ve used thought you needed an early wake up call for family shopping, :'( isn’t that what’s Sundays are about? ;D

Nick

As one porty user to another have had complaints, :-\ one said it was like a road drill and that was the customers husband  ;D
