Is it alright to keep the pure water in a water butt long term or can it become contaminated ???
-
I have been using water buts for over two years with no problems but if you are worried about the TDS creeping up just run the water through a small DI vessel at the point of use

Cheers stevef
Can I ask how big is your water butt?
Thanks
David

After a year, I recently give my two water barells a swill out; they were full of leaves and debris, but funnily enough my water was still TDS 000!
I don't think you have to 'fanny about' with them too much; just check your water now and again with a hand-held TDS meter.

Mine's 210L as well, been using it for nearly two years - no probs.
A tip - if you're using the standard 1/2" tap go to a garden centre and get a 3/4" tap to increase flow rate, or if you're confident go bigger again if you feel you can cut it in without it leaking.

Just be careful of legionella bacteria. I think the water needs to be above *20 C for a week or two* before this occurs to not relevant for a few more months.
**Check this info elsewhere as I'm not sure re exact temp/duration.
