Title: carpet makers
Post by: Mike Halliday on November 02, 2006, 07:12:21 pm
you may have read that I'm in the process of an insurance claim on my livingroom carpet, everything has been going well until this evening.

the carpet shop hasn't been in touch with the insurance company because they say:

your carpet is no longer made so we are getting a company who specialize in making carpets to price up how much it would cost to make your 30yrs old carpet so we can replace it with an exact match

I think they are talking rubbish, if it was true it would cost a fortune

could any one tell me how much this would cost if it was true,  to set up the looms, buy the exact colour wool and make one batch  of our carpet.

The Wilton carpet factory in Salisbury will make a custom carpet based on your design!

Check out the site, there's a bit about having your own carpet designed:

http://www.wiltoncarpets.com/

Not sure how much it costs but the amount you need to order is surprisingly small.

They do a lot of stuff for banks, cinemas etc..the stuff with logos running through it.

They keep an awful lot of colours in stock and I suspect that most carpets are made around a standard range of colours (much like dulux paints!).

If anyone is near Salisbury I'd recommend dropping in. Most of the factory is now a shopping village but they do factory tours of the bit of the carpet works that's left. It's good to see how carpets are actually made.

Try this site for information on carpets and companies who will make one to your design (if your insurers will fork out):   http://www.carpetinfo.co.uk

Has anyone been in the NHS building in Leeds - I was told the bespoke carpet in the foyer cost £1m. :o

Mike, they arent talking rubbish as indeed I deal a lot with companies that make one off carpets. BUT as you have said it isnt cheep to do. At the end of the day your insurance company has to do their best to match what you have so may have to get one madeup. Other than that see if you can strike up a deal with them for the carpet you would like instead. I am sure it would be cheeper for them , best, Dave.

this is what I want, to chose a carpet from the shop that is of equal quality, but they won't tell me what My carpet cost, (but I know its was  in the £60 m2 range) so the insurance company will be quids in if I chose a carpet which only cost £30m2.

I don't believe the carpet shop has contacted any carpet maker they are just bluffing because they haven't sorted anything out yet,

if they can have it made it was £60m2 when it was in stock, so how much now to have it specially made, it will cost the insurance company a fortune

Eeek! That's pricey!

There's a custom made carpet in the arrivals area of Belfast Airport. It has logos of local companies on it.

Mike, can you remember the manufacturer of the original carpet? The colour number and pattern etc?

Damian.

I look after custom made rugs in a new car showroom " very well known " and the little workstation rugs cost £900 each.

They are only about three sq mtrs.
