H Trevor,  Sorry to bother you but I need some information on a building clean we have been asked to carry out and thought you are the man to ask.

The building is a new built site getting ready to hand over in December.
They require 110 (fairly large) windows to be cleaned in/out + surrounds.
There is various stickers on the internal and external windows.
There are 22 rooms and coridoors that require cleaning (remove mortar and clean/hoover.

Question - Do you have standard rates that you hire operatives out to building companies and if so how much.
I already have lots of work and it would mean pushing work back to take the above work on.

I was thinking £100 per opp per day and four days to complete.
What do you think?

I would welcome any help you or other members could give.

I don,t want to get lumbered with a cheap job as building cleans are a nightmare.
Many thanks in advance.

Robbie.  You need to at least double your day rate per opp.

Even then it's a little on the cheap side but at least it's realistic and you should make a profit from the job.

Hi Robbie,

I charge at £25 per hour + VAT per opperative inclusive of materials and equipment.

£100 per day is very cheap, the buliders will run you about if they think they will get away with it, charge them high and they will tow the line a bit more as I works out too costly otherwise. You will avoid doing a clean to be asked to reclean it due to a builder snagging works etc....

Hope this helps,

Trev

Thanks trevor.
Do you get a lot of work at those prices.

I think it will take 4 people 4 days (8 hrs per day) so at your rates it would be £3200  + vat is that right?
It seems alot.
Anyway you have both talked me into it now I am going to charge them £20 per opp per hour and if I get it I will pay my lads some extra.
I will let you know how I get on.
Many thanks for all your help you have both opened my eyes.

Regards,

Hi Robbie,

Yes I get a reasonable amount of work at those prices.

Remember, if your doing this job you can't be out cleaning windows so why lose out just because someone doesn't want to pay the going rate??

If you proce too cheap they will expect you to cut corners and miss stuff out as you will be out of pocket otherwise.

Name your price, make sure it works for you and stick to your guns.

Best wishes,

Trev
