Title: Did I under Price???
Post by: jeff1 on October 31, 2006, 03:53:15 pm
Hi Guy's had a phone call the other day asking me to do the guttering of the house in the photo's, did it today and the lady comes home just as I finished,
she asked how much she owed, and I told her £60, I nearly died when she told me she was expecting to pay £100

Do you recon my price was fair or did I under price it at £60 took an hour and a half to do.

Looks like you did a good job, Jeff. If you made a profit then its smiles all round and you have a job secured next time they want it doing. I'd have charged around that as well.

i dont do gutters either but was told to charge about £1 per meter (roughly where each fixing is attached to the wall and gutter), looking at your photo i would guess £60 was good... more than you would get cleaning the windows.!

Thanks for your comments guy's, That is my Average  price, but felt a bit gutted when she was expecting to pay £100 :'( but I was happy with the price.
I did three lots of guttering to-day and picked up another, I think its a case of keeping up with the jones.

Saying that I have one next week priced at a £100 but its white guttering turned green so I charge extra.

I charge £1.50 per foot, which includes cleaning the outside of the guttering.

A Chav aquaintance of mine worked for a 'professional gutter cleaner', cash in hand.

He told me that they did a job which sounds similar to the picuture you posted and charged 135 quid for it.

When I quote for gutter cleaning, I always tell the customer that my charge is at least half of what they would get charged had they chose someone from the phone books.

60 quid for an hour-and-a-half's work is good.  I'd be more than happy with that.

I think that was a pretty fair price.

Like others have said, as she was suprised with the price she may recommend you and have you back again.
If you are happy with that amount for the time it took then stick with your pricing structure.

How right you Guy's are about the return Jobs, the Boss (mrs) has just taken a phone call from the husband of the house,
he was so pleased with it, he wants it done twice a year, given us his two brothers and his Aunty's house to price, including guttering.

so today has been a good day. I have loads of guttering Jobs to do, but in nine years this is the first one to want it done twice a year.

Just recently I have started pushing this type of work, one customer I have had since I started was supprised I did guttering when I mentioned it to her.
Makes me smile really as every time I do her windows I leave a ticket saying her windows have been done, and on the ticket it states and always has, that I do guttering, she just told me she never noticed.
