Title: Is my RO membrane broken?????
Post by: gsw on October 30, 2006, 07:09:06 am
Hi all,

I have woken up this morning to find only 1/3 of a tank of water on the van!!!!

I have done nothing different to what I usually do and the water pressure is the same as normal.....the water in the tank is reading 23ppm usually I get between 7 and 12 ppm.

has the membrane had it??

does anyone know where I can get 4 x 40 replacement in essex today?

help!

thanks

Greg.

If production has dropped quickly by that much and TDS has risen so suddenly, it does look like membrane replacement is needed.  Your pre- filters should need changing too.  Don't change the membranes without changing the pre-filters as you could ruin the membranes pretty quickly.

Blimey! I was lead to believe that all these filters would last a good couple of years! (the system is 14 months old!).

it is only a 300 litre tank that i fill every night.

the carbon filter i was told would last upto 10 years, and the water softener i backwash with salt every night.. I thought this regenerated the resin in the softener.

thanks Shiner

I believe there are different types of carbon filter.  Mine needs changing 6 monthly.  I also have another pre filter that needs 6 monthly changing.  Check again with manufacturer before dumping your pre filters but it does sound like it.
I have no backwash system on mine so this may alter things.

Did you get any written spec on your system? or was it all verbal. Did they offer a warranty on the consumables like membranes?

Go back to the people who sold you it and complain.
