Title: air movers
Post by: Mike Halliday on October 29, 2006, 05:33:13 pm
I carry 3 and find them invaluble for suite cleaning, how anyone can clean a suite and not use them is incredible to me,

yesturday I cleaned a suite and when I finished it was dry but some areas needed cleaning again. While it was damp I could'nt tell, so if I'd left it damp it would have still been dirty.

this happens a lot which tells me anyone leaving customers with damp suites are leaving suite not totally clean.

so how many do you carry?

I do what you do Mike, I only carry one though, I will be getting another, soon. Blowers are worth their weight in gold as far as upholstery is concerned. Thats my opinion anyway  :) :)

I do hate this coming time of year with them though as the rooms start to get full of xmas cards and decorations

I've been doing it wrong for years. Never bothered with blowers when cleaning and I've mysteriously built a very large repeat, customer base,  from which I have never had a return, or complaint about slow drying.

My drying times, without blowers, are usually 1-2 hours ( touch dry ) which is far better than average and totally dry, with the odd exception, within 3-4 hours.

This has proven completely acceptable to my clients and, indeed, they are often pleasantly surprised at my quick drying times.

Towel testing, gives a pretty accurate indication of the standard of cleanlieness and I don't promise what I can't deliver, although I always tell my clients, to expect, as good as, or better than, the well known franchise operators.

I have two blowers, which are rarely used.

how do you know? do you go back and check.

I'm not talking about someone complaining about slowdrying, I often get customers saying 'will it be dry by tomorrow?' so most people don't expect fast drying, what I'm on about is the fact until is dry you can't really tell if its completely clean.

so who has voted 4!! driers?

im the same as Robbie, i never use driers, dont have call backs, and get repeats.

i recall a topic on this many moons ago, most said they had bought them but never used them, the general feeling was against them, just goes to show it depends who is using this forum at the time, just because all favour them now does not mean there right. that said i think i might give them a go for upholstery this time of year.

does anybody use these fans;

http://www.coolcustomers.co.uk/air-conditioning-units/product2.asp?intProdID=28&pr=Dehumidification&sr=Air%20Movers&mod=CC%2018

might be better, as less powerful? and dont blow ornaments over?

Mike, I voted over 4. I use them mostly when I have to dry area rugs laying down. Sometimes even when they are hoisted so as to give abviously more air flow. I have 6 by the way. When I was doing floods then like a lot of people I had a lot. I never counted them but probably had 20 or so. For those who dont use them for any reason...... buy one, use it when cleaning something and then you can charge more for the service. Otherwise you stay the same as everyone else and so cant charge more. Best, Dave.

Mine dont have grippers for holding rugs which would be useful sometimes. Can they be bought as add-ons?

Like some on here, I dont possess one.
During the summer months  and if its sunny I recommend the customer place the cushions outside to dry off quicker.
I would like to get my hands on one now winters round the corner...anyone know who sells them relatively cheap ?
Cheers.

With reference to putting cushions outside. I was told that if they are in the sun and wet they can bleach, has anyone else heard that?

Even more so (  I guess ) if wet, as the water left in the material would magnify the effect of the suns rays.

We have all seen the effect the sun has on carpets and upholstery.

Depends how long they are left out for.

The older people on here, will possibly remember, that every village in the country, had a bleaching green, where bed sheets were laid out in the sun.....................to bleach.

Remember, folks, its air movement you wan tfor drying, not radiant heat / light.

CraigP.

I Have 5 of the AEG Version of the floor fan that you indicated, as well as a Prochem and a Chinese copy of the Prochem (which lasted 1 job before it fell apart).

Obviously the Prochem Fans (carpet fan) dry's very quickly. However I tend to leave the AEG Fans with customers if they ask and they work reasonably well.

How do I know, it's touch dry, within an hour, or so................because it takes me, on average an hour and a half to clean a suite, so I'm still there.

Also, I always clean suites, before moving on to the carpets and it's unusual, not to have carpets to clean at the same time.

As I said, I've been in this industry for more than 10 minutes, have attended many courses, presentations and demonstrations, always trying new products and learning all the time.

As in every walk of life, theory is fine, but the reality is, we are all different, as machinery and products are different, it's getting the maximum performance out of them , that makes the difference.

I've seen incredible results from someone using a little Puzzi 200, leaving upholstery drier than my Ninja and clean.

The only time I would have felt the need for assisted drying, would have been nearly 20 years ago, when due to, inexperience, inferior machinery and poor products, I left suites much wetter than today.

Finally..............

It takes me an average of 90 minutes to clean a suite at around £55 and I simply don't subscribe to the 3 hour clean and leave a blower to dry, regime.

It's not going to enhance your credibility or reputation being in someones house for a minute longer than absolutely necessary.

When you have tradesmen in your home, you want them finished and out ASAP obviously having completed to a high standard.

thats a very good point Robbie, and a good reason to be quick, i sure customers would get irritated if your there to long, but of course they wouldn't say, Robbie cant see why you only charge £55 (i assume 3 piece) obvously you know what your doing and deserve more, why charge a customer less than there willing to pay?
