I had a message on my answer phone from a lady wanting me to quote for the window cleaning of some offices.
I returned the call only to find out that the lady knew me, I used to be her window cleaner, and she hadn't seen me in TWO YEARS.
AAAAArrrrrrgggggg. :-[
I had to do some 'waffling', but I'm still wanted for a quote.
I tend not to just drop my 'unwanted' customers now, and leave them a letter; I'm sick of getting accosted in Tescos and being asked why I haven't been.
She said window cleaners were like 'hens teeth'!!!!

i recently picked up a nice office , only to find the lady incharge of contracts was a previuos customer , who had lied to me about moving , when the truth apparantly was it was getting too expensive ! shes back on the round as are some of the others from her office !

But not many local lads ADVERTISE. I do. Her perception is that there's not many good window cleaners around, so I'll use that to my advantage and stick in a nice high quote; safe in the knowledge (hopefully) that I'll get the job on the basis of there's no-one else to ask.
This job is a good un, not a big one, but could lead to a lot more.
Obviously, I can't say too much, or you'll be there with your ladders on a pram, asking for work. ;D

Tosh,
You do drop in the funniest lines.
"Ladders on a pram" LOL
-
TOSH, I OFTEN WONDER THE BEST WAY TO DROP A CUSTOMER.
WHAT DO YOU PUT IN YOUR LETTER AND DO YOU DO A DIFFERENT LETTER DEPENDING ON THE REASON YOU ARE DROPPING THEM?
CHEERS
ps DONT KNOCK THE PRAM ITS A GOOD ADVERT, ALMOST AS GOOD AS MY ROBIN RELIANT IN YELLOW!!!

I have only ever dropped one customer. And that is when she refused to pay the new price for her windows after I increased the price.
I just dont drop customers.
If they are giving you a hard time increase the price. If they are giving you a really really hard time increase the price even more.
If you detest them and hate cleaning them, Double the price, But dont ever drop them.

Neil,
When I first started window cleaning I flyered everywhere around the Chepstow area; the estates anyway.
As time moved on, I grew in some areas and in others I didn't. I ended up dropping the 'drive-betweens'. I've a nice compact round now, with only large or well priced properties as drive-betweens.

I clean(ed) the windows for a plasterer, I asked him to give me a price for a job. He told me he was busy and it would be a few weeks.
Not a problem, now he has posted a note through my door( 8 weeks later ) telling me he is to busy to do the job for me.
I didnt want it doing any cheaper I wanted to pay his normal rate.

I have a customer who has been a bit hard to get hold of. She's a nurse and works shifts. Whenever I call she's either out or the curtains are drawn which means she's asleep. Its a bit of a pain but I knew about it when I took her on and she's quite close to where I live so I drive past regularly.
I left a message on her answer machine asking her to phone me to arrange a time when she would be in.
She phoned me back at twenty past one in the morning.
Boy is she dropped.
