I had a bit of trouble with my shurflo backpack yesterday. It kept sort of cycling through the speeds then after a while it turned off. Decided to call it a day after getting quite frustrated, as i thought it was because my electrics seemed quite damp.
Yesterday eve it dried out and checked it seemed to be working fine again.
So today went happily to work, only to find it had got wet in back of van and kept doing this cycling type thing. Sometimes it comes on for a second then turns off, or might come on then go to next speed setting and turn off.
Anyway carried on just using my van mount today and decided to strip it down this eve. It seems all dried out but when i checked earlier still ploaying up!
Can anybody enlighten me? Is it possibly my pressure switch gone, or the elec trics? By the way the battery is fully charged and i would have tried changing the pressure switch but it is different to the spares ive got

Try WD40 everywhere then I would check the warranty.

WD40 would disperse any water, but im pretty sure there is no water, its been indoors drying for hours and hours!
If i did use WD40 would this not invalidate my warranty?

A bit dissapointed with replies to this, so thought id post solution myself, to help anybody else, in same predicament.
Spoke to a very clever chap today who after much discussion and process of elimination sorted my problem!
It is in fact the very small resin covered circuit board which has caused me this problem. If this part is carefully unscrewed and dried out using a hair dryer aimed towards where the switch is, it should and did on mine resolve my problem. This i believe has been caused by damp and condensation in the back of van. Yet another prob for wfp? oh well!
I have however ordered a second backpack so that if this happens again i can still carry on work that day or tyhe day after. (It will pay for itself in long run as 1 - 2 days work could poss be lost without backpack).
I will more than likely be ordering a new circuit board to carry as a spare too! WINTERS COMING AND LOADS OF DAMPNESS!

river got mines replaced from mike at cleantech under warranty, went the same way, looking at trying to protect it in someway as mike said they cost £90 to replace, this took me back

i had the same problams once for a day or 2 i was haveing to put the pack down on wet grass thats when it started .but ive never had it happen since so i think it was damp or something

guys if you are using backpacks get them indoors over the winter or I can see serious problems coming with them, as the circuit boards dont like dampness, you think sureflo would have had them in a sealed unit if they knew they are for water use
if it happens phone sureflo and blame it on product missold for purpose

Interesting.... mine stopped for no apparent reason yesterday (Friday) morning. Disconnected and re-connected the battery and it worked and cut off again.
And my car is very damp too! And so has the weather been. Tried it again this morning and same happened it always re-starts when I re-connect the battery and stops after 20 secs or so. I have phoned cleantech (left a message) and brought pack in and put by radiator.
I will let you know how things go.

That's happened to me. You need a new battery - now.
It'll re-charge but you'll not get a much life out of the battery as you did when it's new.
I'd say if you're a heavy backpack user, you'll need to change the battery at least every six months.
What's happening is, (explaination from Williamson Pumps), you're backpack is trying to draw the full charge from the battery, and when it can't ('cos the battery is low) it'll shut off.
By disconnecting and reconnecting the battery, the backpack resets itself and it will work for a few seconds until it can't draw the full power and shut off again.
I haven't experienced the problem Riverside is having, but my backpack is now 14 months old and has been extremely heavily used; banged; dropped; scratched; knocked over and it's still going strong.
I have a spare though!

Thanks Tosh - I don't use my backpack a great deal but I haven't trickle charged it this week so maybe that's the problem. I'm charging it over the weekend so will see what happens next week.

I haven't a clue. I rarely fill it to the brim; it's too heavy. I just top it up as I go from a barrel of water I keep handy.

So, how often do you charge it?
And all those rounds for sale clogging up the front page - can you move them to "for sale"?

I'm not a mod anymore and can't move them. I think David of St Ives is the only mod with that sort of technical knowledge anyway. Moving topics isn't the easiest thing to do.
Anyway, I charge mine every evening, but as I say, it does get a hammering.
I generally use five or six 25 litres barrels of water a day, which is a fair whack when you're just using it for tops mainly.
Wor Lass is still 'tradding' the bottoms, but it's great, since I'm normally a good few houses ahead of her and we don't have to 'work together' so much, which equals less fighting and moaning at each other.

Dave@stIves, it was Andy at Williamson Pumps, as UK distributer of the Shurflo 600CE backpack they are quite knowledgeable.
Apparently Shurflo are looking into the problem i have as it seems common. The problem is though it isnt specifically designed for window cleaning, so well just have to wait and see.
I might try and seal around the switch tommorrow with some bathroom silicon which is flexible enough to allow the movement needed for the switch. If i do ill post at some point and let everybody know, unless sany of you have already thought of that!

Would it be possible to remove/bypass the circuit board. Set the switch on whatever setting you use and fit a std toggle switch near the top of the pac ?
