here is the challenge.
posh hotel built in 1866 & windows are cleaned every 6 to 8 weeks ;)
they use ladders ::)
they used wfp once but it left streaks and spots becasue the building & frames are sandstone in fact it was so bad they refused to pay the w/c becasue people pay well over £700 per night to stay here :-\
so they went back to ladders... (hold on squeeky before you think the story is over)
however some places are 40+ ft high and the ladders rest on flagstones (more slippery than an eel) :(
so maybe its not very safe... but it is cheap! >:(
has anyone got experience with sandstone and the best way to clean the windows? ;)
is this just a case of bad rising or is sandstone really a pain?

Macleod,
Are you sure the frames are sandstone?
That seems like a strange material to use use for a window frame. I doubt it's impossible, but highly unlikely.
Have you seen them?
-
hi mr T
i have seen the windows but im not a sand stone expert
i was told by the house keeper that is why it was streaky...
i ve heard this before about sandstone...

here is a pic

is that building in Rushden? macload
-
near leamington spa... not sure where rushden is... :-[
got experience of sandstone?

I'm Affraid macleod may be right about the frames being sandstone, the building is built and then the window's that are all leaded are installed and cemented into place, no metal frames, I have one of prince charle's buildings in the SW that is built the same, I can't give advice on WFP as I do all my TRAD.

oh right just look like some building i quoted.
no sorry mate no expereince, just being nosey about your contract ;)
-
cheers guys
any help for cleaning sandstone buildings with wfp?
or any other enquires about my quotes ::)
Is it possible it was just bad wfp use and the windows needed more rinsing or is sandstone impossible with wfp?
-
hiya propole, this job is done by 3 lads on ladders from coventry... is that you?
anyway any help with sandstone wfp windows?
-
what about sandstone causing bad streaks? is this true?
-
also how does cross member stone (transome bars) between windows, cause serious problems ?
-
They should already have the streaks, your water wont make any diffrence either the steel frames or the stone must have marked it in someway, if it hasnt already then your water shouldnt do.
Take close up photos of the entire external building all walls around and below the windows, just incase they try it in the future.

If they have ledges which it looks like they do, that water will hold there and run back through the stone and inside.
Also take a look at every window before you clean it, if it has a gap no matter how small above the top frame into the stone stay well away from it.
