For all the guys out there with a company name, have you registered it so it cant be copied, been going about 5 months and thinking for my next leaflets of using a company name instead of ( Joe bloggs) window cleaner? Also does everyone think its a good idea to have a company name registered?

You only have to register a company name if you become a limited company.

If you're still trad. then how about "Lord of the Rungs"
If you're wfp how about "Pole-dancer"

At the moment I am a sole trader and trade under the name "Southern Cleaning Services".
But, I have also registered as a limited company (currently dormant) as "Southern Cleaning Services Ltd" as I inted to go limited over the next 12 months.

Andy you can reserve the name without going limited for 2 years for £29 and after 2 years you can pay another £29 and hold it for additional 2 years
http://www.duport.co.uk/dupcheck.asp
this allows you to hold the name until you go limited, just the same as holding your web address
hope this helps jinky

Hi Jinky,
Thanks for the info... But I actually set my limited company up ages ago for when I was contracting in IT.
I just simply changed the name of it from Q Computing (UK) Ltd to Southern Cleaning Services Ltd when I became a window cleaner so that I had the name I wanted for when I do go limited.
The name change only cost me £10.

Hi,
I went on a business course and they said that all you need to do is to put a letter headed piece of paper identifying who you are and send it to yourself special delivery Royal Mail style.
If anyone tries to claim your name you can produce the envelope to show that you had the name first. you can aso Identify yourself through royal mail records if you put your company name on the senders section. You should also retain the senders receipt that they give to you.
hope this helps
