Title: Been done before ......
Post by: P @ F on October 22, 2006, 07:22:00 pm
I know its been done before but i feel i am going to suffer this year unless i get a bit more stern , i am talking of course about wfp in the rain , i did my own today in the rain to see if it is doable , they aint been done in 4 months and they dried up lovely , i guess what i am really asking is , should i offer the rain guarantee if people are not happy , i know some on here do , i wouldnt mind re doing them for people if they are not happy , i mean , its better to have a few re cleans a day should it not go right than miss a full days work isnt it ?

What are your thoughts guys ?

I have to date never cleaned in the rain and my customers love this about me .
I have a family now and a mortgage is in the near future , i have not suffered so far in 2.5 years , but it will only take a good spell of rain to screw me .

Keep working at all costs, tell customers if they are not happy to phone you and then re-clean.
Not many will.

im in the same position, i dont clean in the rain because of customers moans and groans and no thank yous, but who can afford to not go to work every time it rains, i know i cant.

so like you p@f im going to have to bite the bullet and tell customers from now on i will clean their windows rain or shine and if they dont like it they can find another window cleaner. i know i will lose a few customers but hopefully i will lose less money than not working in the rain.

i suppose a rain  guarantee is a good idea and i might draft one up and pop one through all my customers doors and see what feed back i get.

Totally agree with The Bear!!

I have been amazed at the good responce from my customers.  Mind you I don't think they worry.....It's US who worry about ity!!!

But then on Friday morning I woke up to the sound of rain ratteling down on the perspex roof of our extension below our bedroom window....realy didn;t feel like going out....then Tracy, my wife, said "You don't have to go out in this do you?"
Well......................nods as good as a wink to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Bear , i love you !  ;D
Its ok mate your safe , dont mean it , so you reckon what i have said is the way to go do you ?
I just feel i am takin the P if i roll up outside a customers house in the rain , but all todays evidence proves that it can be done .

I suppose its a question of just getting out there and doing it and not worrying about what they think .

But what if you dont have any wet day work , i dont at the moment so i am stuffed , i have enough on my plate to worry about getting it , and besides , my customers only want the guttering done  at the end of winter .

Hi Chris , either i have missed all your posts , or you have not been on in a while , which is it ?

That has made my mind up now , im gonna offer the rain guarantee , what i will do is shuffle my work about a bit , on the rainy days do the jobs that i underpriced in the beginning who i think wont stand for a pay increase , that way if i lose them it wont matter so much , and there is the bonus of clearing them from the books to make way for the work that i am now pricing at the right ammount .

In the mean time rich until your sorted, do the customers you know won't be home, I have done this loads of times in the rain & got away with it every time, just keeps the money coming in.

I'm always here, but I dont always say much, but always here none the less

Chris

Ps jeff ... sometimes you start in one street and move to the next and so on , so you cant do just the ones that are out cause you end up going back over parts of your round to get then all done

Hi Chris
thats what I'm on about if your in a street and it starts to rain, then instead of going home, do the one's you know are out, at least when you go back after the rain, you can clean the street up quiker without loosing money, I didn't mean to travel all over the place doing one here and one there, thats no good to anyone. and keeps the earnings up.

here we go again!!!! I really dont understand the problem with working in the rain (unless you dont like getting wet!)

you are there to clean them...not dry them.

offer the customer the rain guarantee.... i always say "if I had doubts about it working do you think I would be standing here getting wet and expecting to have to come and redo your windows when its dry!"

if you are confident the customer will have confidence in you.

the long and short of it is (and I have proved this to myself) no matter how heavy the rain, the windows dry as if they were cleaned in perfect conditions.....FACT!

if you dont like getting wet fair enough, but those of us who have a full schedule, family, mortgage and bills etc can still achieve perfect results even when it is chucking it down!

if you let the customer (and I'm not saying that the customer isn't important) dictate when you can clean their windows then surely you will only be working in some of spring and summer, you cant run a business like this, in my opion.

I always make a point of telling my customers , they will have to take there fair share  of rain and they are all OK with it, at least you have told them from the start.

Hi Dave , so far so good , went out today with the intention of going in the rain ,
come 1.30 it hammered down , i drove to my fussiest street and worked through 2 hours of downpoor , and not one of the 10 house owners said a thing about it !
I did not expect that at all , from now on only real wet days will stop me !

hi rich
not so much advice on working in rain but when i had no commercial work,  on a bad day i would spend nearly all day phoning possible commercial work ie. pubs nursing homes etc.
got a fair bit of work from it i dont mean to sound patronising if thats what you do anyway. plus it also feels like youre working anyway so not so much of a wasted day.
cheers martin
