I know it's been discussed before, but I haven't read a clear answer.
What should we do with our used resin. So far I have disposed of mine the easy way. Is that ok? I read somewhere that it is biodegradeable, but so is my car.....eventually!
What is the correct way to dispose of it?

The best way is to go along to your nearest university - find out where the chemistry labs dump all their materials and then just lob it in with theirs!! :D :D

What is is de-min or softening?

De-min
-
ProP,
yes you can regen softening resin with salt, run water through the resin backwards, this de-compacts the resin the flush through slowly with about 160 grams of salt for every litre of resin (salt in solution), and the rinse through to remove any excess salt.
Pj,
It is possible to regen di resin but you need the right bit of kit and some nasty chemicals, so dispose of it at your local council tip, and tell them what it is.

Amazing, you're the only one to answer!
Thanks

Well I'm surprised at you all.
You are obviously dumping toxic waste as it pleases you!
-
Never really given it much thought, my used resin is carefully disposed of .......

its not toxic the worst it will do is make water a bit cleaner!!!!!
-
No its not toxic as such but it is a styrene bead, which will take years to break down and if ingested by a human or animal will cause problems.
Cant find a safety sheet for MB400, but there is one for NW grade of demin resin http://www.purolite.com/UserFiles/File/P_NRW35_English.pdf
Points to note "Do not allow to enter public sewers or water courses" "Declare as a special waste"
So dont just bin or put it down the drain.

Thanks for taking the time to give an intelligent reply, Steve.
Do you think they'll charge for disposal?
-
No, i wouldn't think so, but go in a car and not a van or they will class it as trade waste. It pi**es me off that so called domestic customer can dump as much waste as they like but if you go in with a few items in a van it's a no no. We pay enough rates for five standard sized houses, we get not waste collection etc but if I go to the tip with my bag of Mcdonalds cups & packets once a week I get chased off by the attendants.

Any worse than a used disposable nappy?
Not toxic as such and takes hundreds of years to disintegrate.
Filllllll
-
Fil,
Yes much worse than your nappies. Your nappies should degrade quite quick.
