below picture is my window cleaning van having been hit whilst stationery in traffic by an 18 ton lorry travelling at 57mph yesterday on the M6 .
One of my lads was driving back to Essex and following me in my new dispatch van that I purchased 30 mins earlier .
Believe it or not he was cut out and has stitches in his head and a few cuts.
I have bruised ribs trying to pull him out.
This van was going to be used on the trad side while the dispatch is for my venture into wfp.
I have given him some extra in his wages but got him to promise he would buy lottery tickets with it and split the winnings with me...as not many people would have survived this horrific smash that I witnessed in my rear view mirror.
Any offers for the van ??
currently being charged £12 a day storage and have a £200+ bill to have it crane lifted onto recovery vehicle.
Seriously though - lucky to be alive!!!

-

Crickey.
I hope he recovers 100% and not just physically.

Hi-Glad Hes ok.The Gods must have smiled on him that day, this might not be the right time to say this but what kind of state would he be in with an extra 1/2 ton of water in the back, the reason why I ask is Im after the same setup as you in a Partner but I have never seen a vehicle with any set up in it involved in an accident, only the ones like youre fella had(trad gear in the back)I have allready had 3 bad accidents in cars/vans,2 as a passenger 1 as a driver, all were the other drivers fault, how do you make it as safe as possible so the result if you do have a crash is as good if not better( if that was possible)than this one,Because to walk away from a vehicle that looks like this,to me is really, really lucky.

Thanks for all your good wishes.
He is a diamond lad and he is very very lucky!
He actually told me this morning that he was not wearing a seat belt!!
What an idiot (must admit we don't very often on the round-but always if on a longer journey)
The cops told him he would be dead if he had been wearing one as the roof caved in and he would not have been thrown around so much on impact !!
Yes I think he must have been a cat in another life just kept a few lives up his sleeve.
Cannot say anything re wfp set ups and accidents - this was my trad van !
The lorry driver told me he looked away for an instant and when he looked back
it was too late.
We are both very grateful for the paramedics from the air support unit in warwickshire and the firecrews who cut him out.
Forgot to mention the vehicle I had just purchased was also hit (not bad but £500 of damage. I am technically not insured on that one - so could not report damage and cannot claim!
Going to take the driver of the lorry to the cleaners though for the wrecked one!
Most important Dan the man shines on and hopefully will win the lottery this week!!!!!!!!!!

He ain't that lucky mind, he was involved in a smash and-a-half after all! I'm sure he'll feel a claim coming on too - and don't settle early, you don't know what long term damage may be brewing.
-
Russ,
Without wanting to sound too gruesome, what sort of van was it before the lorry driver totalled it - cos to me it's unrecognisable!

Glad the guy survived it without much injury.
I've scrapped better looking motors than that !!
Hope he recoversquickly from the shock. Things like that can play on the mind for a while.

Thank god you are all ok!
-
Christ he is very lucky looking at whats left of the van you woudn't have though anyone would survive.
I wish your lad a speedy recovery and hope this does not affect him to much when he gets back behind a wheel.

is it repairable? LOL ::)...sorry had to!
no but seriously, that could of obviously a complete disaster story (it was for the poor old combo!!) but it is good to see no one was killed!
when i heard about hammond crashing the dragster, i thought wow he was lucky, but i think your lad was even luckier tbh ;)

Tried to pull him out?
Lucky he had no major injuries, You would have done a lot more harm than good.
-
thanks for all your comments they have all been passed on to my lad
Yes I tried to pull him out as he manged to get to the passenger side somehow and despite being covered in blood with obvious head injury he was shouting and moving about trying to get out!!
In those circumstances I think most of us would do their best to get the poor lad out
I have kept this very quiet but I was in a different profession for 13 years and have actually attended serious and fatal accidents so think I had a little clue what to do.
I honestly do not know how he survived but having just got back from dropping off a bottle of his favourite tipple you would think he had had a punch up thats all.
Mind you the whiplash is making him walk like Barrymore has given him a visit! lol

your lucky be alive in one piece
-
Please send him my regards, been in a serious accident myself a few years back
it took me years to feel safe behind the wheel again (i was a passenger), looks like that roof rack held the top together. I dont know the lad but will be thinking of him today.
-
good luck to the guy, we had an accident a couple of years ago and althotho it was my drivers fault it was still scary, again lucky no one was hurt - except pride, only thing i would like to say is we had a 1000litre tank fitted proffesionally by facelift and it was nearly full coming back down motorway and the tank only moved within the framework after an inpact of around 70mph, my thoughts are -whilst wfp is good please have it fitted properly as if we had fitted it ourselfs and it had gone forward we could be talking very differant stories. i know that many fit it themselfs as it cuts down cost but in the event of an accident it could make the differance. also anyone been asked by van insurance as to who fitted wfp and asked for written proof iif t wasnt done by themselfs. please note i am not having a go at anyone who does fit it themselfs but to me its better to have it done proffessionally, feedback from anyone whether fitted themselfs or by manufactorer would be interesting

Just seen the pic.
Goodness Me!
How did he ever walk away in one piece from that!
Hope he recovers (like someone else says mentally as well as physically)
I bet he'll have a different perspective on life after going through that.
Send our thoughts and best wishes.
