hi i read some where that window cleaning is one of the top ten small businesses to start. the pro's were investment in plant and equipment is minimal, a pair of ladders a bucket ect. no need for computers just a pencil and note book for accounts cash flow, money the first customer you get usually in cash. but what are the cons?.

You have to clean windows :(

Weather, collecting, and being looked upon by the majority of people as a t##t :(

Having lots of free time and a better income is also a real burden!!!

It's a sound business, but demands a bit of discipline and hard work to do well. Incomes for sole traders here probably range between 10K to 50K; so a bit of business nouse is definately an asset.
I think it's great how we can have a day-or-two off, on the cuff, and our customers generally don't mind if you're late (unless you've got stuff pre-booked; or regular cleans that have to be done at certain times and days).
The cons are, it can be a dirty job; you'll find out when you walk big lumps of dog poo up your ladders. It is also hard, repetive work, often in arduous circumstances.
Toilets aren't always handy; no-where to wash your hands before you eat lunch; cash-flow problems; adverse weather.
A well-developed sense-of-humour is definately required.

I think it's a perfect small business type job but only for some. I've known a few people around here who saw I was doing ok and started window cleaning for themselves.
They all gave up after a few months.

It requires a certain frame of mind to be able to graft your cahones off one day have a short day the next then a hard couple then an easy one,get rasined off a few days loll around watch tv play on the computer then the rain lifts and its back to the graft

Tosh just carry some soap mate and when you wash your hands just take the hozelock off your backpack, turn it on and you have a perfect tap ;)
