Title: inline softener
Post by: MNWC on October 10, 2006, 12:19:54 pm
Hi there,
Is there a cartridge on the market that can soften water pre ro ??. That could be fitted into a 10"/20" Cannister??

Yes, But 10 or 20" of softening resin wont last long. If you have hardnes of say 200ppm you will only get about 160 litres through a 10" cartridge before its all used up. Drop us a e-mail or give us a call.

if your tds is only 200ppm why soften it?

ours fluctuates between 300 and 350 ppm, no softener used, comes out of merlin ro at 5ppm.

The only problem with using hard water is its not recommend by the RO and membrane manufacturers eg the Merlins specs say 171mg/l max hardness. Hard water will scale the membrane. But on small systems such as a Merlin it wont reduce the life by much so your better changing your membranes more frequently.
