Hi Guys,
With the release of two new products , both colloids in the past week I have researched colloid cleaning chemicals and have come to the following conclusions.
Colloids work by suspending inert materail like silica in water using surfactants ( surface active agents).
The effect of this is that the inert material is constanly moving and effectively knocking into the dirt on the carpet fibres.
Imagine being in a ball pond where the balls are constanly moving alll around you and knocking into you, this would have the effect of cleaning you as well as driving you completely bonkers ::)
The dirt is eventually literally knocked off the fibres and held in suspension by the surfactants.
The products claim to be envoromentally friendly because they are sourced from plants but as we all know every chemical has side effects and must be treated with respect. Surfactants can cause dematitis in vulnerable people.
Both products also appear to continue working after you have gone home, if this is true it can only be because some of the colloid remains in the carpet and keeps knocking off remaining pieces of dirt/stain.
Another claim from one company is that their product shatters fleas, mites etc into tiny fragments, if this is actually true :o then I find it worrying as it is certainly not enviromentally friendly to kill of insects / bacteria etc as these all perform a function in the great scheme of things.
I am looking forward to receiving a sample and experimenting myself.
Cheers

Must admit, it concerns me that a cleaning product "shatters the joints "of bugs, etc and presumably kills them as a result of the trauma.
While I appreciate that these are very small compared to humans, it still concerns me, as we are all made up of microscopic cells.
If assurances are given that there is absolutely no danger to humans, or other creatures, I will be happy to try out these new products.
If something can make the job of cleaning, easier and more profitable, I'm interested.

Just remembered, I got some product from a DRY CLEANER supplier a couple of years ago and I'm sure it was a colloidal product.
Never used it, as it was in an incredibly concentrated state and I felt it was too goooey for use in c/c machines.
The description on the container, suggested it was a prewash which broke down heavy soiling and held it in suspension.
As this is from memory, it might not be completely accurate
