If you are making your own water for WFP has anyone worked out the actual price of producing a litre of water after including all the expenses involved?

I'm on a meter and run purification overnight.
water is £1.70 per cubic metre. Divide that by 1000 and add a couple of pence for electric & filters etc

taking into consideration all things except our unit it costs us approx 122p per 100 ltrs

What are you adding onto the price of the water to make it so expensive
Rob ???

no resin costs then? no replacement filters, no set-up costs ie Ro or Di units, containers, hoses, etc?
To All
Generally it seems the actual cost of the water is being ignored in the costing and running of the business!
Only asking because I have not seen a topic on water costs mentioned here.

so how much does water cost to produce 2p 20p or what per lilter any one got the answer

As Midas has said.
Look on your last water bill, or phone the water co. Check the price per cubic metre which is the same as 1,000 litres, I believe. Don't forget to take into consideration your waste.
For most single operators your water usage for w/c will be no more than £10 per week.
-
The price per cubic metre depends on which water board supply you and also whether you are on mains sewers too.
I'm not on a metre and we have a cesspit for our waste.
My own water bill per year (this current year) was £99.00.
Other costs such as replacement membranes, resin and pre-filters also need to be factored in of course, and there is not going to be just a single figure that will suit all people, that will also depend on water hardness, water pressure, how well you care and maintain your equipment.
As John says;

These costs are almost hidden in some respects, a lot just don't think about it, they see they are doing more work per hour and end out charging less than they were before porely because they are quicker :-\
In some instances people are going to spend several thousand pounds on equipment, they will have a business with higher running costs and yet they will drop their prices through the floor to be more competitive than the opposition!

:o :o :o :o :o
Jees mine is now £69 per month.
Used to be £21 per month before wfp.
Thats £828 per year.
Man I hate those meters. >:(

JohnL
No resin costs - haven't used resin for 12 months - my tds is 000
Tanks, RO units, pipes etc are set up costs. They are not an ongoing cost.
Filters are about £6.00 each - I believe I mentioned a couple of pence in my post

Hell, what are you moaning at, we are not even on a meter & our water bills are nearly £600 a year.
It just shows how ripped off we are in the SOUTH. >:(

Macc, roughly how much water do you use per day?

Hi.
I use on avarage 200ltrs a day at work.

This is getting more interesting! :)
I asked because of the amount of water used in certain instances - some usage is small and some will be large if the pics posted are anything to go by and I wonder, when you guys price a job is the water price factored in?
and well said Ian G

but then you lot down there can charge a lot more per job
-
I live down in the south west and I pay well over £600 a year for the groco's (tourist) to come down here to enjoy our clean beaches. How fair is that? We have the highest water bills, high house prices and really poor wages. Bring back national water bills and abolish privatisation of the water companies which the conservative party introduced in Maggie Thatchers era.

YOU LUCKY LOT !
Unless i have misread , i reckon i have the most expensive water in the world !
£3.50 per cubic meter {Plymouth} SW
However , i am DI only , 60 ppm , no waste water .
Not sure if im getting this right , but i have worked out that i am paying 0.0075p per litre .
Any body want to put me right ?
Rich P @ F
-
Stupid me , you will need the ammounts !
£3.50 .......cubic metre of water {60ppm} Di only.
£80.00 ....bag of resin .
I bet most of you will get 0.095 !
I can explain my answer , can you ?
Rich P @ F
-
a cubic meter is 1000ltrs - therefore 1 ltr is 0.35p,
-
I feel daft as pig poop here , JM123 , Do the sum for me with the figures i have given would you please , either im more stoopid than i thought or my calculator is on the blink !
Rich P @ F

Rich, are you still using the resin in a bucket to filter your water?
JohnL
-
Hi John , Yes im still using it , i was using a bag of resin every month before , now im only using a bag every 3 months !
Mathew {clear vision } was making up a filter too , i sent him the bits , but i have not heard how he got on with it , he is only 28ppm at tap so his saving should be fantastic , come on Mathew what happened ?

Well after your post I made a unit from a new drain pipe, capped the bottom after putting an 'inlet' for the water just above the base and an outlet at the top. The unit was about 3 feet in length, filled it with 5 ltrs of resin which made it about one third full and on a slow flow - and I mean slow, it produced about 300 ltrs in a 24hr turnround at 000 TDS from a tap TDS of 44. I thought it was the beas knees - until it rained! My tap TDS went up to 170 and my water up to 76 max :(
According to the boys who know about water that is the way it goes and why you need a RO system. Using resin only uncompressed will make the water find the shortest way out and therefore not maximise the resin. The answer is to pack it very, very tight into the container, cap it in some way, add a filter unit topper to slow the rate even more which makes the water use all the resin to permeat thro thus using all the resin to clean. I have yet to find a way of packing the stuff in tight, but I will! I possibly need a narrower or shorter tube?
I presume you are having more luck than I did :)
Even tho I say it myself it was a pretty impressive looking system and pre the rain was very good at producing 000 TDS water . I think the problem round here is the rain is all run-off from the agricultural hills and is full of rubbish and chemicals once into the system ;)

i just buy a bottle of spring water from asda at lunch to eat with my sandwich... around 30p... thats around 50quid a year... so not so bad up here ;D :D
-
Plonker Gary!
That is 30p for what? 1/2 litre? That works out at .60p litre = x 1,000L = 1 cu M = £600 per cu metre! Not good! Better 1/100th that price, but don't drink it!
