people upgrading and others realising its not for them as well as the ones who cant make a living.

They fetch a good price so demand is exceeding supply, to an extent so probably due to upgrades, in the main.

I'm not so sure it is mostly people upgrading. I think more often than not people fail in not only this business, but most. I beleive people think it is a lot easier than it actually is. My opinion!.

Surely if there were loads of secondhand machines on the market, the price would fall?

Easy, because people always upgrade to red ones, much quicker than white, look in the outside lane of any motorway and you will see it for yourself  ;D
