I see 3M Scotchguard are back with a
new improved formula which became available in the Uk from the 1st May for around £67 + VAT for a US gallon.
As it's water based you will get a lot mileage out of a 5 litres.
I shall have to try some out ;)
-
Hi
This particular Scotchgard product is the US product for their market...
I understand that 3M are currently working on a water based product for the UK market but it isn't ready yet.
There is a new solvent based fabric protector for the UK which will be on the market soon
Cheers

Hi Derek
This is water based and I was led to believe that it is for the UK market launched on the 1st May :-/
Trevor
-
But where did you buy it?
The only official UK distributor for Scotchgard is in Manchester and I 'know' they don't have any water based carpet protector ...I was there a couple of weeks ago
Now fabric protector..maybe ;)
Cheers

Hi Guys
So you noticed the deliberate mistake ::)
I have to keep you oldies on your toes you know. ;D
Any way had to dash off last night to watch Chelsea (throw it away) so couldn't answer.
I've not bought any yet Derek but the company that contacted me assure me it's the one for the UK market and that they are the only suppliers of it in the UK.
All needs checking out don't you think.
-
Hi
The 3m UK distributor is already looking into this
Derek
-
What will be the difference between the Uk and US products and where will we be able to buy it from?
Shaun

As the UK and European exclusive distributor for the Scotchgard Protector after-market products I was surprised at the announcement made in this section. We have been working closely with 3M (I used to work for them for 13 years) to develop and launch a new range of products for this market since 3M withdrew in May 2000.
They have been working to engineer a new range of products that do not have the problems of bioaccumulation and persisitence that the "old" product had.
Right now we are launching the new generation PM3862 - a spirit-based formulation of Scotchgard Protector for use on upholstery (not carpet). There is no water-based formulation available at present, though work is being done to rectify that. There is also no carpet product either for after-market applications.
I have asked 3M (St Paul USA, Bracknell UK and Antwerp Belgium) to clarify exactly which product is being imported into the UK from the US, and I'll share the reply when received.
If anyone has any experience or sample label information of the water-based product being advertised I will be happy to hear about it and share feedback with 3M.
If anyone has any questions about this subject I'll be happy to try and answer them.
Thanks for reading this far!

Go to
www.carpetextractor.co.uk
Scotchgard is on their site advertised as latest formula
from the US exclusive to them :-/ :-/ are you suggesting this is a 'moody' product and not the real thing OR is unsuitable for use in the UK, if so for what reasons?
Trevor

Hi Trevor
I cannot get access to the site you mentioned.. anyone else having trouble?
Derek
-
Derek, try it now
-
Trevor,
Did you watch the clips on the oriental rug duster (Used Equipment) on that site?
Now if I could get that on my van................................
John.
-
I did yes,
If you could get that on your van at least it would drown out the noise from your recoil ;D ;D
-
Trevor,
Sorry, can you speak up?
Brown bat-boys on my red boil ????
John.
-
When I first started carpet cleaning I worked exclusively on a machine just like that for a couple of months.
Shaun

I wonder when the Norwegian formula comes out?
Ivar in from comm job this morning :P

Derek & George
All gone quiet on the Scotchgard front,
Are we to assume that this product from Carpet Extractor IS in fact the latest improved product as advertised.
Trevor
-
Hi Trevor
I met up with George yesterday to discuss some other matters but he did say that has contacted 3M in the States who are looking into this particular matter...they were apparently unaware that a US product was on sale over here.
Derek
-
Trevor, as Derek said I spoke to 3M USA on Tuesday. The latest is that the product is meant for the US contract market (offices, hotels etc) and this is almost totally a synthetic fibre content. The product is not designed for upholstery, but as much of the US upholstery is also synthetic fibre too then they have tried it and it doesn't do any harm. Please be aware that if we use it in the UK it must be careful with our carpets and fabrics because we have a much higher natural fibre content in our domestic and contract markets. (See other notes about colour shift and pH sensitive dyes)
I have asked for samples to be sent to me and I'll share with Derek when it arrives. I'm sure Derek will thouroughly test and appraise the product, and from there we can recommend the best way to use it. 3M really are keen to ensure that all professional users get the best advice and information about their products, so will be helping us with this. The person I spoke with was not aware that the UK was already getting this product advertised.
I think the best thing to do for the moment is wait for some further advice.
Thanks
George

I know it's a bit late in the day for this post, but, what is the code for this protector??
Would it by chance be something like
FX4860 ??
Just curious, as we have not had 3M Scotchgard Fabric Protector, down under for several years, and I have repeatedly been told that 3M will no longer be bringing in an after sales treatment.
Cheers,
Shorty.

Hi Shorty
I had a look at my drum of the new Scotchgard fabric protector and unfortunately it doesn't have a 'brand' number on it.
The product does have a brand number...I will check it out for you... I am pretty sure the one you quoted isn't it.. its something like BX 3862...???
Incidentally.... my drum has the prototype number on it
Cheers

The new upholstery product is given the snappy name of PM3862.
In keeping with the usual 3M form they do not put the Scotchgard brand on any product except those sold directly to the consumer (aerosols etc), so you will not find the name on the blue steel drums, though we are looking at adding something to the drums to help with ID for those buying them.

Thanks George
I get my numbers mixed up these days...its my age.
Prefix PM it is...my test drum obviously means I have PM(T)...That explains a lot! ;)
