I've been reading the other thread about training etc with some interest.
How does one go about getting an NVQ in carpet cleaning at the moment ?
I work for a College where we put approximately 1000 students through nvq cleaning qualifications per year. At the moment this is mostly in "Building interior" cleaning which deals with the basics and when moving onto level 2, hard floor care and basic carpet cleaning.
There is however a Level 2 NVQ in carpet cleaning which we do not currently offer due in the most part to lack of interest.
My question is therefore, If there was an interest out there for said NVQ and we were in a position to offer it, How would you like it to be delivered?
Currently we run intensive courses where you can complete an NVQ in four days (Subject to previous experience)
I realise this would be loss of trade for you guys. So would a mix of distance learning and a day at a college work?
I'd like to hear your suggestions and be willing to give information to any interested parties.
Our website listing current qualifications is

Don't be fooled by the accrington bit. We work the length and bredth of the country.

Hi Stu
I think your best bet would be to contact The British Institute of Cleaning Science.
Hope this helps

Hi Stu & Derek
Wasn't Paul Pearce involved in setting up the carpet cleaning NVQ's?
I seem to recall this being mentioned some years ago at an NCCA meeting.
Maybe he has further information.
I believe Bob Spencer of Rainbow International was also involved.

Stu,
Ive been suggesting a distance learning course for some time.
However I think what most people want from their qualification is to put a verifiable logo in their advertising such as NCCA. There apears only two ways of achieving this and NVQs are not part of it.

You are correct...Paul and I spent quite a few days locked in a grubby hotel room in Wantage drawing up the NVQ's
Bob Spencer of Rainbow fame was also involved representing the franchises...he went on to become an assessor
Rainbow have now sold out to ISS so I don't know what the position is currently.
The NVQ's were really for the larger Companies/organisations and never appealed to the small operator
Hope this helps

I didn't realize you were involved in the setting up of the NVQ's as well.
You will have to forgive me, as I am not the fizziest bottle of pop in the crate!!! ??? :-/ :D ;)
