I got a Expert 2.0Hdi. Love it. Not to big and bulky but still can fit in a 650 tank. Get the tank fitted in the middle of van. Prob a 500 tank would be better.

Same here, I've an expert HDi too. Got a 500l fitted, still got fair amount of room in back for buckets and other gear. When I finally get round to it, I'm gonna fit some hooks and brackets for hanging gear n rather than having it sitting on the floor.

I would say 500l is proabably as large as you should go with the tank, this will allow you enough leeway on the payload. Depends what other gear you're likely to carry.

This a 650 tank. I haven't seen many baffle tanks like my one around. It was expensive but really heavy duty. I seen other 650 tanks that appear smaller.

I normally only fill it to about 500 as it feels abit overloaded otherwise but still plenty of water for the day just for one person. I have to admit it doesn't look quite as clean as that these days :)

I use the 1.9d non turbo, I have fitted a 400ltr upright baffled tank, directly behind the seats, i have not got a bulhead fitted, this gives me lots of space in the loadspace area for my poles step ladders ect.
Next time I will go for the turbo as the 1.9 is a bit under powered for distance travelling, but other than that its a great van.

If you filled your van to the limit Archie you will be over your Gross payload allowance. 915 kg max if my memmory serves me correctly.

The weight of your 4040 ro system adds considerbly to your weight.

My only other concern would be looking at the photo is that you are breaking the law as regards axle weight. With the position of the tank and ro at the back you will be in trouble by the police. The tank should be closer to the drivers seat. Your supplier who fitted the van should know better.

stuart - all you need to do is click on additional options below the message reply box when you are replying, hit browse and insert the image you want to upload.

Archy136 - 650 tank filled only holds about 600ltrs (baffles take up some of the volume) so say 600kg, plus tank (50kg) plus poles etc (50kg max) leaves you over 200kg left on your payload.

Assuming 60 ltrs fuel (diesel, relative density 0.8Kg/ltr) = 48kg, you still have 167Kg available on your payload - thats 25stone!  I'd hardly think you weigh that.

This is assuming you fill that tank, fuel tank, take all your gear and have been eating a lot of pies.

Gazza.

I dont think you can beat the expert if you are staying as a one-man-band. Loads of power and space.

Dont know about ladders. Never needed or wanted them after going WFP.

JMC.

Thanks for the info but Nel100 was right I do need to reposition the tank and lose a bit of weight.(16 stone)

I don't have a problem, I have ladders on mine. However, for ease of removal I open the sliding door, and stand on the ledge to unload and load them. When loading them back I rest them on the edge of the rack, then step up and place them properly.

As long as you're not under 5' you shouldn't have too much problem. ;)

Hi Jinky,

What you mean the..... shhhh one that hasn't been released yet?!! :o

Don't know if its the one you mean, its the new 'super-lite' from Gardiner. It is amazingly light, you can literally use it at 35ft with one hand, no problems!! (Not advisable in windy conditions!).

Only thing to get used to is the assembling and deassembling, for different heights, but this is easy enough to get used to.
I am currently having a bit of difficulty taking it apart, as some sections seem to have got stuck. Not sure why this is, but I had to bring it home on the roof yesterday. I'm scared of putting too much pressure on it and breaking it!(yes, it is that light!). I've already busted the top sections, by putting too much pressure trying to push a window closed that was too stiff  :o :o

I would almost go as far as saying that this is the only pole you will ever need. It just takes a little getting used to.

simbag I thought it was alex new pole, I managed to get a sneak preview of one and I was impressed of how light it was, you think it still needs some modification to get it right

I think the pole itself is totally usable. I think that possibly there needs to be a little extra thought and testing (probably why it hasn't been released yet). For example, I would like to see an end cap for each section, so as I can use each piece seperately without worrying about wearing the ends away. The carbon fibre is so thin, is doesn't take much to chip the edge if you're not careful.
As far as the sticking pieces go, I don't know, as I've still to speak to someone about, to find out if it can be resolved easily enough.
