I had a thought today that could make somebody in the window cleaning productions game a fortune.
I know a lot of trad w/c ers like to apply the solution to about 1/2 inch of the edges of the panes of glass. This reduces the time taken in detailing the window because you don't have to wipe excess water from the edges.
I personally feel i am not doing a 'proper job' unless i wash all of the window and then tidy up afterwards.
How about one of the manufacturers designing an applicator which allows you to wash right to the edge of the pane but also removes the excess water at the same time by their being some kind of gizmo on the sides of the applicator.
In my nutty professor mode today. :P

Lance,
That'll not happen because you're not being 'logical'.
Who cares if you miss an inch round the sides of a window as long as you leave a clean window?
If you want to make life difficult; why not do ten star-jumps with a burpee in-between each pane of windows?
Sorry for being sarcastic; I like you really, Lance! ;)

Tosh mate,
You're a bit of topic!!
Lance,
Try one of these

Thanks for a sensible reply D.
:P to you too tosh ;)
What exactly is it that you have in the picture. Does it remove the excess water from the edges of the panes for those of us who like to clean the whole window. :o

Lance,
It's a Squeegee Mate. A washer that fits to your squeegee so you can wash and squeegee in the same stroke!!
It doesn't wash right to the edge of the window because you use a washer part an inch shorter than your squeegee. Here I agree with Tosh, you do not have to detail afterwards iff your squeegee is "Dogeared" and the rubber is cut to a slight angle outwards. The squeegee will push a little water to the edge and take it off without leaving a line to be detailed
-
Surely using one of those you'd either wreck the rubber by pressing too hard in trying to get all the muck off the window or you wouldn't press hard enough resulting in poor cleaning results.
Feeling out numbered and the replies are getting arguementative. aaaarrghh ;D ;D

im new.
but i will tell you what i do
as soon as i get to the window i wipe around the edges with a damp cloth.... it takes 5 seconds...
thats the edges cleaned..
then i applicate... not touching the edges.. then squeegee..
and thats the advice i got from here.
but i understand your need to wash the lot frames and all
thats me.too
but im learning now.

Gazza, surely it would be quicker to wash over all of the window and then go round the edges with your cloth, then squeegee afterwards. This way you wouldn't have to be so careful in your applicator movements. ;)

Oh and the top edges tends to be where all the spiders web tacks and bug guts are so a quick wipe won't normally remove all of this. ::)
