Hi,
can anyone tell me the best way to clean the gutters and facias, i think gutters will be ok, but the facias will need some kind of solution i expect,
Also if ladder work do you all use a stand off for facias.
thanks for any help on this.

Definately a stand off Gazza.
We just use wfp now but before we just used soapy water and elbow grease. :)
-
cheers pet. lol.... ski
do you do plenty of that line of work.
-
I wish. ::)
Having said that we dont really push it as much as we should.
We tend to wait to be asked by the customer.(Lazy buggers). ;D

Hi Gazza
Yes to the stand off, it also saves any damage to guttering,
Just use your normal window solution as you would windows, even the greenest comes off easily.
Cloths use a reasonably wet one to clean with and another to dry with, this also makes it looked polished from the ground. wipe the drain pipes on your way down, this adds a little touch, and then ask if they would like to go on your list to have it done once a year.

If the soffits and fascia's are plastic, there are special cleaning products available. Some window clean websites have them, think ettore do a squeegee off type one or if you have a local Eurocell type outlet who sell the soffits and fascia's you can get the stuff there. Someone also told me that bleach diluted with water is ok too. Obviously all this should be done with the help of a grown up.

I may be wrong but I think its been said on here that bleach will discolour the UPVC. ???

thanks .. grown up indeed, :D just been to facia and window store.. sold me some solvent cleaner which they use only 3 quid..
thanks for your replies guys.

I use wfp, I make up a bucket of gg4 dip my brush in it and with low water otput scrub all along gutter and fascia and everything comes away very easy, When every part of the house is done I wack up the flow rate and rinse evrything off, comes up a treat.
I also use this method for realy dirty first cleans on windows.
Sometimes if fascias are realy dirty directly behind gutters where you cant get the brush, I will offer the customer the option of removeing the guttering and cleaning for extra cost, but as you only see this area if you stand directly under the guttering very few have this done.
I have been on the look out for a long bristled brush to enable me to get behind the guttering, but have as yet not found anything suitable, anybody know of such a brush? If so where can i get one.
The above method I use I got of this forum but cant remember who it was that posted It.

By far, the best way is pressure washing them, then WFP them to make them, shine.
I have done many houses this way, also tried it with just wfp, and just elbow grease.
With a bit of practice you will be able to fly through a fascia/gutter job.

Hi Gazza, we bought a powerwasher and long lance but the results were only fair. Now we use car wash brushes and window cleaning liquid (g525 I think) in a bucket, give fascia & soffit a good scrub and rinse everything from the ground with the customers water, comes up great.
We have two hose on reels and use a splitter that way one can do the front while the other does the back etc
If the pressure is very low we just wash one section and when we are doing the next we rinse the first from the ladder.
Also we find it helps if you wet the fascia & soffit with the hose before you start to clean it.
hope this helps - Michael

i recently done a house,all window frames,glass,fascias,(not clearing gutters)for £80.I was there for 2 hours.Not a bad little earner
-
wfp with tfr and some good old elbow greece, and u can be on your way to earning a nice little hourly rate
-
I put Traffic film remover (diluted) onto the plastic first then wash of with a power washer does the trick
-
first you need to soap them up with the pressure washer, on a low pressure with a soap feed.
Then let it soak in for a couple of minutes. Next high pressure wash it off with a long lance from the ground. - now all the worst of it is off.
Next wfp. Most of the time you will find the gutters are worst off. So its just like cleaning window frames. They will not need much work as the pressure washer has got the worst of it off.
