Just been to assess a job which if I get it, will be my biggest and most time consuming to date.
FOUR ACCOMODATION BLOCKS...EACH HAS SEVEN FLOORS.
What needs cleaning ? Every single stair and 7 Landings on ALL FOUR BLOCKS. Oh, there is also 2 stairwells in each block.
Gotta give ONE price on individual landing (approx 20sq mtrs) and a floor ( each floor consists of 14 steps, 5ft wide ) AND a price for the entire job.
Seems a lot to take in but its basically the whole job consists of...
56 LANDINGS @ 20 sq mtrs each
800 STEPS @ 5ft wide
I reckon I could clean ONE block each day with 2 people and would normally work on £250 a day.
Huge building company will be footing the bill as they made the mess !
Thing is, 4 days away from my regular domestic customers and some decent money to be made. Wot should I do ?...you know how long building contractors make you wait for payment !!!
Thinking of going in with an inflated estimate and see what happens.
What would you charge ???

250.00 aday with 2 people ?is that for the 3 of you
i would charge 2600.00and do it over 4 saturdays
hope this helps

Terry as you say, when these jobs come along it totally disrupts your regular work which is your bread and butter.
The building company concerned probably just want the job done and out the way so may not be that concerned with cost as long as it looks resonable. £250 a day for 2 men is on the low side. A labour agency will charge you 50 quid an hour for a labourer. You should be looking at 250 each at least.

Chances are they are getting a few quotes and will go for cheapest option, then make him wait for his money. I think the only way you will get at a decent rate, is to convince them that you are diferent to the norm and will do a fantastic job that their client will be over the moon with. With that in mind, instead of just sending a quote, explain in detail what you will be doing and include some testimonials etc. I would then quote a little more than what I would be happy with, but expect not to get the job. If they accepted the quote I'd treat it as a bonus and make it clear, payment due on completion.

I'd probably charge £450 per block, one block a day, for two people, four days work, £1800
We work for house builders day in, day out, expect to wait for your money! You may also need to register for a CIS card.
Cheers,
Huw.

Last clean I did for a builder he kept me waiting 8 months. In veiw of the short time scale they must be desperate to finish ( they always seem to wait till the 11th hour). I would go in at £2.00 per sqm

I WOULD GO WITH WHAT GARY SAY'S !
IT'S A LOT OF WORK & LOT OF AGRO & YOU HIT NAIL ON THE HEAD ABOUT KEEPING YOU WAITING FOR THE CASH ! PEOPLE LIKE THAT THINK THERE WELL ABOVE THERE STATION OFFERING THIS LEVEL WORK ! YET THEY WILL HAVE NO CONTROL OVER PAYMENT IF OR WHEN !
£250 PER DAY FULL DAYS MONEY FOR TWO BLOKES INC RUNNING COST'S OF ANY BUSINESS IS SHORT
CASH FLOW ! DOMESTIC SIMPLE

Many building companies take a 2.5% trade discount off the payment and say that this is the norm...they don't tell you beforehand though....make sure your quotation states "Terms: Payment net within 28 days from date of invoice".
Do you have a Building Trades Certificate if not they are obliged to deduct tax...more delays whilst you sort that one out.
