This may sound odd as your intention has been to remove the grease but when chefs clean their kitchens they often rub a very thin layer of oil into the stainless steel to give it a shine.
Can't think of anything else at mo - may be worth a try :-/

Use a small amount of white vinegar on a dry mirofibre cloth. It works a treat on my cooker hob.

Hi Guys
Just trialed distilled white vinegar( dilute to 50%)
and also lemon juice (also diluted)
The lemon juice works great, spray a fine mist and wipe off with paper towels, excellent. also works great on ceramic sinks, toilets, tiles, taps, cookers and glass.
At 44p for a small bottle and then diluted, cheap, cheerful, smells great and works a treat.
