Hi guys
I thought it would be an interesting poll to find out which form of advertising works best for various business's.
This might also be of benefit to new starts (as it is often a question that is posted on here) when considering where to advertise for the first time.

Trevor
You need to add forget this it don’t work and list the same
Len

What are some of the other votes at the bottom come on chaps share your secrets
-
Alex,
It's no secret - It's called word-of-mouth ;)
Every customer I have can be traced back to one of nine people.
John.
-
John do you have a recommendation system working or do you just rely on people spreading the word?

Interesting
Yellow Pages response is a surprise,
Thomsons isn't, some might be getting a clearer picture on where to place that expensive ad and where not.
Half expected leaflet drops to be highest.
Others, most of these would be referals I suspect, as your existing customers are advertising for you.
If not what other type of advertising are you using?
-
Do letters count as leaflets.
Especially if you us a letter leaflet.
Is it only a letter if you put a stamp on it.
?
-
If you stick it in an envelope and post it its a letter ;)
if its a piece of paper put through the letter box then its a leaflet.
I'v got 20,000 leaflets going out this week, and I've already got more work than i can handle, but the leaflet company made me an offer i could'nt refuse.

If you stuck your 20,000 leaflets into an envalope each and put a second class stamp onto your 20,000 envalopes after addressing them would you still make a profit??
-
Silly question but now I'm a Cleanitup GOD!!
-
You would get more jobs from posting letters then having them delivered with a paper but you would make less profit because of the cost but as John says you would still make a profit.

Mick,
Solus delivery on A5 size usually equates to £25.00 Per 1000, so we would be talking approx £500 just for delivery.
The printing of 20.000 full colour A5 130gm leaflets is approx £300 ex VAT + Carriage.
£800.00 for printing and delivery on the above guide.
Response rate on Carpet & Upholstery cleaning is approx 0.1 Per cent over a four month period.
Nitty Gritty
So you should receive 20 enquires over the space of four months and probably book only 15, 15 jobs at a minimum call out of £35.00 would bring £525.00 giving a short fall of £275.00 from the original investment of £800.00, you would need to charge £54.00 just to break even.
How much do you pay for printing and distribution Mick?.
-
Peter, your figures are a load of crap ;) I'd give you the prices i pay, but i don't talk to strangers. ;D
fill out your profile
Mike
-
I'll just add my average job price is over £100 so put that into your calculations ;)
-
Mike
Are you happy with what you earn? Yes forget the rest
Len
-
Well said Dat Man!!
-
Len, no I'm not :'( :'( I'd like to earn an extra £20k without working any more hours.
Mike
-
Mike
I would have been very surprised if you agreed with me, I would also like to earn a lot more with less hours, and this has been covered by other post but at the end of the day the perception of any cleaning be it Jo public or corporate customers is Mr & Mrs Mop how must will it cost me! No matter what you put in your adverts say

You could say Mick' s a master when it comes to leaflets as he does regular amounts every week and makes it work, the so-so figures may be for 1 type of drop in an OK type of paper with 10 other leaflets every 3 months.
When I do leaflet drops with my pink leaflet I get 1%(10 out 1000) calls between 6 and 7 book and my average job on last leaflet was £155.47 as my wifes computer records tell me, why don't I do more leaflets I hear you ask? I am always booked up what's the point of spending good money.

Congratulations John Fllyn on becoming God I always new you were.
What I was trying to ask was in this poll where are letters.
Thank you Mike for clarrifying the status of my letter type leaflet.
Most of all thank you Shaun for revealing one of your marketing secrets, and statistics, we now know the standard we have to acheive, to win the Marketer of the Year Award.
-
They're not secrets and I didn't put leaflets.
Shaun

So,,,,
What conclusions do we draw from this
A reasonable ad in the YP,
Send out batches of Leaflets on a regular basis to the
right areas
And then don't forget to put a small ad in your local paper.
All running together, not very expensive to do and you've cracked it ;)
Joe Polish, pah who needs him ;D
-
I must be the only one getting anything from the thomsons then?
I spent 2K the them last year and get 3 or 4 calls a week from the blue book.
In our area the yellow page is spilt in two books right along the middle of fife thier is another 5 companys advertise in the blue book also.
So i must be doing something right .
I also am in the phone book and it paid for itself in the first two weeks... ;)
