IToday i seen my very first double bird impact marks on a window, I have seen many single ones but never 2 on the same pane if you look closely you can see one at the top left and another in the centre.
I am seeing one every other day lately, this is quite strange as in previous years i was lucky if i seen one a year.
Is it just me or are you seeing a lot more birds flying into windows this year, there was another one next door to this one on the other side of the house, so that was 3 in one day.

I had one on a nursing home and it must of exploded there was blood, feathers and crap everywhere. It must of been flying very fast

I have seen loads of these as well, infact one of my elderly customers asked if I could leave some smears so the birds can see the windows :o

Hi Dave
On the radio the other night this wildlife expert was saying.......
Also, before I write why, I've seen more bird splatters this year than ever before on glass...
Anyway, this 'expert' was saying that this year insects are on the increase because of new laws about insectisides. The insect nasty ones are now banned.
As a result the small bird population is on the increase because they have more 'insect food'. As a result so are creatures that hunt small birds and one creature that hunts small birds is the sparrow hawk. One way sparrows or any other small bird evades capture is to fly towards anything and then vere off at the last moment. The preditor chasing then flies into the 'whatever'. Sparrow hawks have increased in population by 15 fold in the last 3 years and the biggest increase has been this year because there is more food for them.
Also, the same 'expert' said that as small bird are on the increase, there are more of flying into windows because they see the reflection and think the reflection is another bird of the same species invading their territry so they attack.
It made more sense when he explained it.
Cheers

Maybe the birde in question was a manic deppresive and was trying to kill itself, perhaps the first attempt didn't work so it tried again??

Hi everyone
I have this one particular house I clean that has several bird marks on each time I clean it. The strange thing is, one time I went there was about eight different marks due to this on three front windows, so I went ahead as usual and cleaned them.
On the next visit the client told me I missed a window as one of the marks was still there. I apologised and made sure I gave it an extra good scrub. That night I was really mad with myself, because I do not miss windows. The following day they phoned me and asked if there was any reason I was missing that window. Shocked, I told them it had been cleaned, but I would come up and do it again.
So I arrived, set up, scrubbed, waited for it to dry and the mark was still there. Impossible I thought, so, I got my ladders out and went up to inspect the window.
After inspection, I kindly told my client the mark was on the inside and not the outside…………………. They apologised and I received a £20 tip for my trouble.

I do one house that's a 'hot-spot' for bird-impact marks (have I coined a new phrase?).
It's a rural account and the living room has two sets of large patio doors on opposite sides of the room.
Each month there's at least one impact mark on at least one set of the patio doors.
My customer thinks it's because the birds think they can fly under the house; via the windows.

You can't fool me Mr Morris,
The seagulls down there eat and drink so much, it's a wonder they can even take off!
They hit the windows for a laugh! It's a seagull thang ;D

I've cleaned quite a few windows where birds have impacted on the glass. In my previous job I once had to straighten out the front end of a vehicle (no, not mine) after a 'copper' had unfortunately 'impacted' against it at a very great speed which killed him outright. It made a right mess of the windows and all day I kept finding 'bits' as I was straightening out this vehicle.
-
wow, the bird must have hit the copper really hard then to kill him ;D
-
I saw another one yesterday,
I reckon i see 1 a day now , as i dont trad upstairs anymore there well could be more i have not noticed

STOP THE DEATH OF BIRDS CRASHING INTO PANES!At least 250000 birds die each day from crashing into window panes or similar obstacles -often unnoticed by us human beings. A lot of them aren’t dead at once but die from internalinjuries later on. Then cats or other animals of prey eat the victims. What is more, during thehatching season the brood of these injured birds will starve to death as well. At least 70 birdspecies are affected, from barn owl and kingfisher to sparrow hawk and yellowhammer.Unfortunately, the well-known black silhouettes of birds of prey are useless. Birds do notrecognise non-moving silhouettes as a source of danger but only as an obstacle. They makeway for these obstacles and thus crash into the pane of glass next to them. If pinned up frominside, the silhouette will even not be recognisable as an obstacle if the window reflects. In 1996 already, I suggested a completely new approach to solving this problem, and from1999 onwards I have explained it in detail together with Martin Regner (see "Vogel undUmwelt" volume 13, publications in part 1, p. 31 - 41, Aug. 2002). Our idea is to mark paneswith patterns that warn birds but are invisible to human beings. Since birds are able to seeultraviolet light - which we cannot - we should succeed by using patterns that are only visiblein ultraviolet-light. For further information look up www.spinnennetz-effekt.de in the internet.Appropriate commercial products aren't available yet, but luckily there is a simple method ofpreventing the death of birds crashing into window panes: Just don’t clean your windows onthe outside anymore. And if you do clean them, dab some suntan lotion on the window paneafterwards. Dust and suntan lotion absorb ultraviolet light, while it is reflected by clean partsof the panes. A contrasting pattern evolves and birds will be warned and veer off in time. But what about the dirt and the dots on the pane? Here is a little experiment you can tryyourself right now: Look through a window at any object you choose, for example the numberof your neighbour’s house, and keep the picture in your mind. Then dab some grease on thewindow pane in a way that the dots are about a span apart. Then look again at the number ofyour neighbour’s house. You will see it the same way as before although you are lookingthrough a dirty pane! That is because we only see what we want to see. Whenever we want to see the number ofthe house, the daubing and the dirt are automatically erased in our mind - we somehow lookright through the dirt. Only if we want to see the dirt we see it, but then the number is erased. That is why we can even look through net curtains and see what is going on outside. We areonly world champions in window cleaning because people want us to believe we should lookat the window and not through it. By the way: First we polish the pane and then we pull thecurtain before it - what is that good for?So what is to be done? Do not clean the windows on the outside. Thus, the pane willrefract the reflections and warn birds. Put some suntan lotion (protection factor 30) inyour palm and then use your fingertip to dab it on the outside of the pane in small dotsabout a span apart. And if you do want to clean your window from time to time, dabsuntan lotion on the pane again after cleaning it. Ever since I have been doing that Ihave not found any more dead birds!Dr. Friedrich Buer and Martin Regner, Georg-Vogel-Str. 6, D-91413 Neustadt a. d.
