Title: bonnet cleaning timings
Post by: Mike Halliday on September 13, 2006, 06:10:53 pm
I cleaned a social club today, because it was a belgian Wilton with loose seams I bonneted it.

all the sellers of bonnet systems say how much carpet you can clean with bonnets so i thought I'd give you today's experience.

as a 2 man team we cleaned 60m2, we pulled up outside the ground-floor premises at 8.50am and left at 10.20am so it took 3/man hours to clean.

we both are experienced 'bonnet cleaners' and have our own method of bonnet cleaning which is a little bit more thorough than usual.

30 mins moving & replacing chairs & tables onto dance floor (15mins off-15mins back again)

1)we vacced the carpets then rotary scrubbed the dry carpet and then vacced again.

2) in 15m2 sections we pre-sprayed the carpet and scrubbed it with a red pad.

3) we presprayed again and then bonneted the carpet with cotton pads, using 2 pads both sides

we then continued to the next section.

as I bonneted my colleague did all the chewing gum and spotted any marks that hadn't come out with the bonnetting, so we were both working at all times.

working like this we managed 20m2 a man hour, if it had been empty corridors we might have been slightly quicker.

but if you are doing pubs, clubs, or canteens I would expect to clean any more than this.

it was no quicker than if I'd used the T/M

mike, very interesting method,
1 what was the pre-spray
2 why the red pad and not the normal rotary brush

this isn't in any way a criticism, it's just that i have never thought to use a red pad, what is the advantage

I too have found that bonnet cleaning with the Texatherm is slower on really dirty carpets that the TM and the results are never better.

But for that type of carpet its all that can be done.

Colin I used solution No 2.

I used to use the stiff rotary brush to work in the pre-spray before bonnetting but there has been a lot of talk on the American boards about agitating with a red pad so I started trying it, it does a better job. I don't know why and some people frown on it.

I use the rotary brush to dry scrub the carpet because I always feel you should use a pilelifter before bonneting but i don't have one, the dry scrub really loosen any lightly attached dry dirt.

Cleaned pub once using charly pads due to split seams all over.Took me twice as long was not happy with result personally but customer was over the moon especially as it was practically dry when I left previously she had to close for 2 days as the carpet was still wet hence the split seams.

I agree, bonnet cleaning is slow going on heavily soiled carpets, but for moderate soiling on low profile carpets I do find it quicker than HWE.

I doubt whether the manufacturers add furniture removal and chewing gum removal into their metres/hour figures, we once spent 60 man hours removing chewing gum from a nightclub carpet that only took about 4 hours to clean!

Can I ask what brush you used for dry scrubbing and at what speed.

Thanks

Dave, 200rpm.

the brush is a very stiff scrubbing brush, almost too stiff, it can grip the carpet sometimes and be a bit hard to handle.
