Title: Truckmounts
Post by: Billy Russell on September 13, 2006, 02:15:31 pm
hello all,

just looking to upgrade to a truckmount but i'm unsure at which one to go for so i was just looking for comments on any good or bad just looking for any sort of review! I know you could go to the manufactuers but they only tell you the good points i feel you have to get the views of the people out there using them! Plus i have to convince my boss why a truckmount would benefit the company!

 Any help would be appreicated

All the best

Will

i have the panther 20 and i am that pleased with it i have ordered the 27  as i can do with the dual wanding ability at times. i dare say you will have people saying other makes are better and to be honest i could not comment on the other ones. what i suggest is that you get all the major companies to come to you and give you a demo of each machine and have a play with them. that way you can choose what suits you

Ive had 2 hydramaster maxx's and wouldn't go for anything less. They have served me very well with no breakdowns.
I would always go for an industry leading make and hydramaster is just that. Go for water cooled if poss, and cat pump.

Glyn has said it all. Some people prefer one make and stick with it. As long as it does the job, then there shouldn't be any problems.

I did Prochem courses so i went for a new Blazer plus because i had seen them, but had i of seen a Hydramaster i probably would have bought from them.

Coincidentally, i received a card in the post today from Hydramaster and obviously they think i still use a portable machine. If you have a portable in good working order and you are the original owner, they will give you a £1000 off the cost of a new Spitfire 3.2 model. Worth looking at.

Have a look at the Prowler if space is a priority. If not go for a panther.

I have a Prochem Everest HP. You will probably find arguments against and for other makes. The one thing you should consider when purchasing a TM is support. I looked at the Prochem and the Hydromaster equivalent and was impressed by both. The only thing that made me choose the Prochem was there support structures and the knowledge (perceived) of the sales and support staff.

I must be honest, the Prowler range looks good to me, and the concept of not having a waste tank looks very interesting.

Hi Steve,

Where do I find info on the prowler? is this the machine that can be used as a TM or also taken out of the van?

Thanks,

Adam.

Personally I would buy from the nearest dealer.  Middle of the range Tms seem to be much of a muchness.  Its the top end Tms that have the biggest differences.

When it breaks and it will you want it fixed asap.  Thats the bottom line.

I agree with Mark, everyone will tell you the machine they own is best. I bought a Woodbridge Pro 20 for 2 reasons, one it was the cheapest and two they are only 1/2 hour from me.

who says that Hydramaster are the 'industries leading make'  ::) Hydramaster I bet!!

buy whats local because the all go wrong ;) and unless you know your way around T/M it will cause a lot of stress.

you have to be careful asking questions like this because you will get all the unofficial salesmen giving their 'unbiased opinions' ::)

the problem is that friendship gets in the way of honesty.

certain people sing the praises of certain companies because they are big mate of the owners, and yes I bet the do get 'preferential' discounts.

I don't want to cause trouble but a lot of people know of problems with a certain truckmount, but no one says anything because they don't want to cause trouble for there mate.

Here's my two penn'orth on my Prochem Blazer Plus, bought two years ago. Their service is good, any bits you need are there first class post next day. Drawbacks: water pump only rated to 1000psi so not up to powerwashing as an add-on. Engine 18hp B&S Vanguard quite noisy on small housing estates. Water tank badly designed - no internal baffles, fill through the large filler cap
(modded mine with bog standard ballcock valve); heat exchanger can leak water into exhaust; it also bypasses water straight to waste tank so if doing a flood extraction you need to start with a tank of water! ( another mod - pipe it back to the water tank through a bit of hose as I did. Seems to work.). Otherwise its good kit and later developments may have cured these probs. I gather Chemspec offer a good t/m with a 3000psi pump but I have not seen it in action.

Eric

I also have a Blazer plus bought new in 2005 and i think i am correct in stating that the water pump on this system is rated a lot higher than 1000 psi and to achieve this, a smaller pulley is all that would need to be fitted to enable it to run at a higher rate. This is in the actual cat pump manual. I cant see the engine coming to any harm by driving the pump faster.

I would be interested in any mods you have carried out, especially diverting water back to the clean tank, etc.

The water tank i found could have been better and there were no seals on the two large caps.

What you have to be careful of is the pressure capacity of the heat exchanger. A lot of these can't cope with more than 1000psi.

John

Are the heat exchangers expensive to replace and easy or hard to get access to itself on the machine? and could they technically be exchanged for a higher spec one?

Not sure about particular models, you would have to enquire with the dealer. However the heat exchanger is a major component.
