Title: Which ladders - again
Post by: Dick on September 09, 2006, 09:31:39 pm
I'm about to buy a set of triple ladders. After having a good look around, I find that some sets are the same width and some are reducing in width. Anyone have an opinion as to which are the most suitable for handling etc and where is the best to buy from.
Thanks
Dick

i bought a triple a few months ago,i find them completely unworkable.
the weight of them makes it really awkward to move around, and that was me just using them for 1 building for a commercial job,if i were you i would get some more opinions before commiting to a triple

But presumably you can split them and use 1, 2 or 3 sections as required thus making them easier to use.

Our Squeaky works like this; he has a set of triples; but usually I see him with only two sections on his car; meaning he isn't working any 2nd floor windows that day.

But personally, after borrowing a set of ladders to do some 2nd floor work - and not liking the extra height - I decided not to take on any 2nd floor jobs until I transferred to WFP.

The ladders are heavy; it's tough work; and if you fall, it's a long way down.

Even if you're 'anti-WFP', you could get a backpack set-up for around £500 which you could use for your difficult and dangerous accounts.

So, if possible and finances allow; consider an entry level WFP set up first.

I've taken on quite a few (small) 2nd floor jobs this year; and these pay well given the small amount of windows I do; easy too with a light Unger pole.

At the minute I am thinking that I could do with a triple set but on Friday was at a job and couldnt get to this one window no matter what ladder I had and wondered about wfp because it suddenly occurred to me a portable backpack set up would be a real benefit for some windows even on my current round.
I might start a thread asking a bit more about the backpack because I might be better off using the money on that than a triple.

There's been loads of posts regarding the backpack on this site.

Just so we're not reinventing the wheel, use the search facility before you ask.

Tosh.
