Title: Dowex Resin
Post by: shaunjames on September 09, 2006, 03:53:13 pm
Hi guys, can anybody help with some info on resin usage. At the moment due to limited funds, I'm running a resin tank direct from water supply to use with my pole system. When I first filled tank up, approximately 6 weeks ago, I was getting a reasonable supply of pure water, but over the last few weeks the resin is expiring far quicker, perhaps only getting quarter of the usage, why could this be? Is it storage maybe? Phoned Wintecs who supplied resin and said heat or cold could be the problem, if this is so, why don't they state this on the bag, however, any info or opinions appreciated.

First of all check, the water flow rate from your tap, if this is to high then your tds reading will go higher, without the resin been used up.

Kept the opened bag sealed up airtight if you can and store in a dark room where its not too damp, cold or hot.

Make sure when you fill up the di tank that its not filled to the rim, allow at least 4-6 inches.

Make sure its packed down put not to tight.

Shake the di tank before you need to use it.

Shaun,

Are you talking about the original fill (6 weeks ago) that is not performing or are you talking about a new re-fill?

If its the original fill, then it just need replacing.

If its subsequent fills then the most important thing (WHICH WINTECS SHOULD HAVE TOLD YOU) is if you allow the resin to dry out the small beads crack & will not work. Ensure any unused resin in left in the bag is sealed up to keep it moist.

freshwater is 100% correct here, resin beads go off very quickly if not stored correctly, also run the tap water through the resin slowly if you can to maximise contact time between water and beads.
