Hi,
has anybody out there got experience of internal high level cleaning. i.e. removal of dust and crap from roof spars, ducting, light fittings, etc. I have a meeting next Tuesday with a director of a plastics firm. They have 2 large factories and they want me to do the internal cleans along with other work. I have an IPAF licence and can sort out a lifter. I also have a large 3000W vac.
Do I need to sheet below where I am working? If anybody has any advise or tips I would be most grateful.
Thankyou Peter

Hi Peter,
I used to work in a plastics factory and still have a cleaning contract for one now, the dust can be horrendous depending on whether or not they use re grind material so i would defiantly advise to dust sheet all areas especially if there staff are still in the building and of course breathing masks must be worn! If you can damp down before you vac this will obviously help.
Regards Rob.

gb,
Before you start, contact `Health & Safety` for advice, tell them what you are going to do! its best to find out if you will need to comply with any new legislation etc.
You will need to make a assessment of the area, i.e
what standard of cleaning do they require? what machinery can i cover with sheeting? is this safe- given machinary maybe hot due a production run etc.
Access? will people be working beneath me? etc.
Use cloth dust sheets where possible (they absorb dust better than plastic covers), and if possilble try and hire a back-pack vacumm cleaner for the awkward bits!
When you are vacumming, you will knock dust everywhere when you don`t want too! (this is normal, and can`t be helped)
I would also consider hiring a industrial air extractor connected to a pipe to the outside, this will catch the bits of dust etc that has fallen.
