You don't want to bother if you can afford to avoid it. I spent ten years in the insurance industry prior to doing this, 4 years investigating insurance fraud.
Phone rings, "I need a quote for my insurance company" you go out, spend the time discussing what is possible with a client who 6/10 times is looking for a new carpet or suite. They then call you back 2 days later and say "my insurance co says I have to use Rainbow/Chemdry/Servicemaster" and you are out the time. Likelihood is that should the customer assert their right to te

Curses! sorry about that, Should the client stand on their rights to use you instead of XYZ cleaning, you run the risk of a sabotaged job.
Insurance companies like large market /high street presences, and they will screw you right down to the bone on fees, I have seen unethical practices employed by companies trying to make a profit from it.
Your best course would be to contact local Loss Adjusting firms and introduce yourself. Good LAs manage claims personally, so you can build a real relationship with your contact and potential future clients, and get around £65+VAT a time for writing a letter saying "Yup, the carpet is shag (ged)." when the job really is a no-goer. I worked for Royal and Scum Alliance, who now advertise as "More Th>n"
Hope this helps.

sabotaged job? lost me there ???
my experience i have approched lost ajusters and they dont want to know small local c/c ers, no good to them having thousands of tel numbers all for different coverage areas, and you cant blame that for that it makes sense.
ive only had insurance work when customers had to get the old three qoutes and use cheapest.
insurance cos will not call the likes of us.

thanks bill you are a straight bloke who does not mind giving advice
steve gunn is the same and others
thanks lads

What a negative attitude Bill! there is plenty of insurance work to be had, it needs to be promoted on your web site, advertising and all other marketing, I know from my own experience that there is excellent money to be made finding what you are good at and showing you can out perform the big guys.

can you give me an example
customer can you clean my carpet
itas an insurance claim , but i want to use you .
whats the next step ? many thanks.
-
next step would be to get the customer to sign a waiver stating that they will pay if the insurance co will not..... if the claim is high value most wont sign, so you get authorisation from ins co/adjustor......... then the insurance co will most likely want to instruct one of thier prefferred suppliers... cd, rainbow, munters etc, now it depends on the customer, and how well you have briefed them.
But the legal position is that they are entitled to be put in the same position as they were before the claim, and can choose whichever contractor they wish to achieve this IF the contractor is a competant person.
I could do a week long course on the ins and outs and what ifs of this , but that is the basic outline.

Yup, Jasonl has it bang on.
Sorry if I sounded a bit negative / bitter chaps. If you are doing ins work and gaining from it, more power to your elbow. I made the decision based on my experience, that I had much better odds of a stress free life by concentrating solely on the domestic market. My ambitions are modest and done properly I know I can do exactly what I want to.
I can appreciate that I personally saw a teeny tiny part of a percentage of all the ins. carpet work being done, but honestly! I am sure you'd have been put off too ;D
