Sair I make biodiesel....does'nt cost much and saves loads....
Old oil, heat up to around 50c, then add a mixture of methanol/caustic soda...mix for an hour....let it sit for about 12 hours, remove the glycerine(poss to make soap from this)....bubble wash numerous times...let it sit.....to remove excess water in the mix....
Put in car/van etc...money saved.
Thats about it....very easy proceedure....Sorry to sound slap-dash...but it is so simple....it is untrue....
The UK gov't will want about 27 pence per litre in tax....if you tell them ;)

Hi all.....if you're intrested in bio fuels, I would say that this website is the best place to start http://www.biodieselcommunity.org/
It is an amercian site and I have no connection with it other than reading it.
Give this a read and in the mean time I will try to collate some uk information for you all.
Cheers
Dave.

Macc....
I get about 8.5 litres of fuel from 10 litres of waste oil
Turn around is about 4 days for me.
Cost's.....can be made for aprox 21p litre....but there are many factors....
Please bear in mind that you will have to pay the gov't in UK aprox 27p litre in tax ;)
Cheers Dave.

Thanks Dave.

heres another site

ps...The best waste oil is generally from chinese take-aways....the worst is from burger type places...whats that tell you ?
Cheers
Dave.
ps....get deals in your local area....clean windows and get paid in old used cooking oil....guaranteed you'll be the winner.
-
because the fat from the meat melts and mixes with the oil, chinese only use it for cooking chips only.
-
Local Farmer 29pence a litre.

I have to admit....making and using biodiesel....for most people is a 'secret cottage industry' and most people keep it to their self....not good to advertise your 'screwing' the tax man.
Also remember if your going to make this stuff you will be using chemicals that require special handling i.e methanol, caustic soda etc.....some home insurance/mortgage providors, councils, landlords will not be to happy that you carry large amounts on these checmical....in your house/garage.
Sometimes it is hard to not notice that your exhust fumes smell of 'chips' ;)
Cheers
Dave.

I use pure veg oil i buy in bulk from a cash and carry 20litre tins I pour two of these straight into my tank with a tenners worth a diesel on top. There is no need to heat the oil coz if its cheap nuts the consistentsy is thinner anyway Waste of time adding this and that it is all rubbish.. Trust me on this one.. this is the way I have been doing it for years and no I dont drive a banger... I drive a Mercedes ML on an 03 plate.... IT REALLY DOES WORK. ;)

ccwc1988, do you use any type of filters, does it smell or ok

No filters just as is... pour straight in. I must admit it is very daunting when you first do it... so try putting 20 litres in, on top of half a tank of diesel.. then be a bit braver next time.....you wont be sorry. Cost is £9.50 for 20 litre tin so its about 45p per litre....bargain.
Apparently it can smell if your in the car behind...but you wont be..lol

WOW, fantastic, so whats all the comotion about then, them saying you need filtes barrels beeds ect, your way is far better thanks for that
