??? On a post the other week someone posted a reply or a topic on " how clean is clean ". Now I got a thinking today whilst cleaning (first job of the week) nice through lounge, hall, stairs and landing. all poly, 15 years plus in age never been cleaned. I used the recognised methods vaccum, pre-spray, agitate, rinse and extract. WITH VERY GOOD RESULTS.
HOWEVER,

OPPS , I remembered the white towel trick (spayed with a little Cleaner) and scrubbed and hey presto muck - So my question is what should we regard as acceptable, should I go round and scrubb all areas untill they are spotless (of course not) but as a person with many years carpet cleaning experience I am not happy with this. On another area I used detergent with rinse instead of micro-splitter with similar results. So should we just not expect prime results with carpet that hasnt been cleaned for years (or never) after all if we didnt change our clothes, we wouldnt expect them to come up as new? Or should I upgrade to a TM?

I would say get it as good as you can within a reasonable time.
Would you be happy with the results if you were a customer paying what you charge?
I know it's a "length of a piece of string" type answer!

when i am doing a c.c.job.i get the carpet as clean as is possible...........if the customer is happy then so am i!! ;) ;)

I think theres a huge diffrence between cleaning carpets so there clean and cleaning to look better some people use black lights etc
But i would not of thought you should get dirt transfer onto a cloth after cleaned, Ive on ocasion proved worn areas are clean by rubbing with a white cloth but a 15 year old carpet is never going to come 100 % clean

;) Ah well thats puts all the claims in some of the advertising I have seen out of the window ;)

This is interesting.
Craigp recentley aquired a truckmount.
When he had a portable he belived he was getting the caropet clean and would have passed the white towel test.
I read that now he has is truckmount he thinks his cleaning results have improved

t/m owners would you say that you can get the carpets cleaner..........??
i understand that you can do them faster than a porty(filling/emptying/waiting to get hot.....e.tc)
but is it cleaner????

I was told by an american instuctor who has had tests done by NASA whilst on trainging lately that HWE is the only method that has unlimited soil removal capabilities so go figure, but I bet that if side by side and if it could be recorded acurately the two systems acheived the same results (which I doubt but thats imo) one would dry much quicker with little threat of wicking etc

Actually, a portable and the right operator can outclean a truckmount run by a fool. The number one advantage to any system is the operator. With that spoken, yes, I believe truckmounts offer more soil removal. I don't know if I can mention the carpet and rug institute (the association of the dudes who make the carpet) but they have a rather remarkable ability to test soil removal ability using XFR technology developed by NASA. Those basic results are available to cleaners on the Carpet-rug.org website under SOA (Seal of approval).
By the way, cleaning is the routine removal of soil, 15 year old sofa's that have never been cleaned is called restoration.
No steaks for the price of a Hamburger.

Im with you on this score spindle2k. Yes t/m's have more power etc but after all those long hoses heat and cfm drops off to the point where i reckon they are about equal! ;)

I was porti owner for 14 years but then went TM, I didn't think I would tell the difference that much but it does but not on every carpet depends on how new and how clean/dirty.
Just imagine that you have 400psi separating each fibre and 400 cfm of air wooshing back. It fluffs the pile up no end, the end appearance is superior.
Yes you could say that I'm bias as I have forked out all that money but when I decide to I will get another TM so would I really be that daft to spend good money after bad?

employed staff before infact had 2 vans with TM's in but got let down so decided to just keep cleaning (it's addictive)although I do have a dry cleaners aswell.

You can borrow my machine any time (must be arranged) any cleaner depending, wife done a survey between her old Bosh washing machine and the new Miele, this one go the thumbs up, but looked the same to me, asked her did you try different cleaning agents.
