Title: Profiles!!! Again
Post by: Trevor Knight on August 25, 2006, 06:52:47 pm
Hi everyone,

Can I ask, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE can you fill in your location.

I am getting tired of seeing people asking for help and advice to see if they are local to me only to find they haven't bothered to complete their profile location? I am sure I am not the only one either.

The next posting is always, "what's your location"!

Its beginning to drive me nuts.

Come on, if you haven't done it yet please do it now. Lets keep everything tidy.

Many, many thanks,

Trev

At the top of the Cleanitup.co.uk forum is a heading which says Profile.

Go into there and you can change your details.

Many thanks,

Trev

Maybe if I start deleting postings from non-profile members it might get a response?

Trevor,

I think thats taking your role as a moderator a little far, although in principle I agree with your request I think you should respect peoples right to complete their profile as much or as little as they wish.

If its that important why not make it a requirement of membership that certain fields of the profile are completed, you wouldn't allow a member to join without a username now would you!

Regards

Alistair

Trevor, you're quite a boring person mate  :-\

Maybe you should lighten up and get out more. This is JUST a forum. You are JUST a moderator. It's JUST a profile, and if someone should wish not to let us all know where they live that's their choice. This really is not an important thing, JUST a forum.

hhmmm, well if thats the case maybe you have the same 'boring' condition as the restof us - seeing as you actually take the time to respond.  There's been plenty of folks who have come on this forum, have learned things, and have highlighted how much the forum has hellped them, so please in future if you are going to make a comment try and not offend anyone.

.  .  and filling in the profile to show where you are helps people respond to requests for help and assistance so before you 2 guys take time out to criticise Trev just think why the location of members can be useful.

so people will continue to ask questions like - should I buy an ro or go di only?  and no-one has a clue where they are so we can't advise best.

come on guys and girls - no one is going to hunt you down, believe me its easy enough done with your IP address which you can't hide anyway.

It does beg the question why is so much information required just to talk ?

I think people are more educated than that, the information is on this forum as to which areas are soft water or hard water, it is freely available

As I understand things the other forum requires you to use your full name to sign in, is this perhaps why its not as popular as this one? and although there are lots of pros among us Why do so many need to hide there details?
Does this forum have a larger volume of cowboys perhaps? searching questions I guess, but please stop picking on the mods they are doing their best in what is becoming an increasingly more difficult job.

Chris
A forum is an exchange of ideas, on my part this is done freely, i understand that it must be a viable concern, but ido think that the balance is tipt to much on one side

I did a post a couple of weeks ago about profiles, because I to couldn't understand why people just can't add the area were they live, and this is all trevor is asking, an area not your full name and address. nor your proper name Just an Area.

This way if anyone asks for help in the wfp section, I have seen members ask if they can go out with someone for a day all for the price of a bacon sandwich, and the next post is were do you live? and they come back on and tell us, so why not put it on in the first place??

would it help if your location was posted under your avatar
Title: Re: Profiles!!! Again

definitely!

but it seems there are members on this forum who dont want to give their location and I can only think that is suspicious - for what reason I just cannot fathom out

well then could people voluntarily put their location under their avatar and once others see it maybe it would become common practice
