Title: First time I've canvassed for 6 years!
Post by: paul mather on August 20, 2006, 08:44:26 am
Well this is what one month of WFP does for you, it means you quickly realise you're gonna need some more work.

My wife & I went out Sat afternoon for a couple of hours & picked up £60 worth of work.

What do you think?

£60.00 worth of work times that over a year if its going to be monthly equals £720.00  ;D

I think thats very good Paul.

Not a bad result Paul.

When you canvass for wfp work. Do you tend to leave the houses with top openers on them, or are you prepared to clean any type of window with wfp.

It's just that someone mentioned that windows with openers are a pain with wfp because of waiting for drips to stop.

No, we knock every door.

Still not sure how much to mention about WFP as most people are a little wary of too much change, ie new WCer & new system

Hi Paul,

Im going to be doing some doorknocking for the first time in the next few days, I was just going to put on my uniform and approach them with.

"I'm from a local W/C co. and were looking to expand in this area, are you interested in having your windows cleaned"

Just gonna keep it simple and hopefully my winning smile will see me through  ;)

Any advice on what works and how many customers did you pick up the other day???

Only trouble is Alastair I've seen your winning smile!!! ;) ;) ;)

We picked up 7 decent sized houses but it is in an area that I already clean so I had a bit of an advantage as people have seen me around.

Lance,

There's no problem WFP this type of window; just make sure the *transome bar has been washed and cleaned.

*I think that's what it's called; the bit of the frame under the top opener.

We,ve now been out 3 times & so far we have picked up  14 new customers, most of which are decent sized houses.

We have a system that seems to work well. My wife does all the door knocking then gives me the houses that need quoting. She is very good at putting them at ease, so 80-90% of the houses I quote for, we get straight away.

I think people like to see that you are a family man & not out just to earn some beer & f*gs money. Oh & we also take our 3 kids with us, they are well behaved & people seem to like talkng to them.

Yep sure do.

As long as they are well behaved I think it shows to the householder that you are a family man who is responsible & not some fly by night who is here today & gone tomorrow.

But they must be well behaved. (amazing what the promise of a bag of sweets can do)

Hi all....Have been out leafleting and as a result we get calls for quotes....I am an English guy working here in Holland.....I have to say I am shocked that each and every customer invites both my girlfriend and I into their homes....despite the fact the access for the most part can be obtained to the rear of the property elsewhere.

Is this normal?.....people here seem to really want to chat....I am not complaining but just suprised really....do you find the same?

Cheers
Dave.

Yes the family angle can help,i was knocking in March and it was just beginning to get dark, knocked at a door and eventually an old lady answers and she was a bit spooked,I asked if she wanted a window cleaner and I was gutted to see she was really suspicious and a bit frightened so I went into how I was local,2 streets away and setting up to earn money to look after my girls etc and she thawed out and was delighted to get me to clean.I have two gorgeous lasses, one is three and looks like an angel and I have wondered about taking her with me when canvassing,I have taken the eldest -8 yrs -out collecting with me before.

Need to go knocking myself next week as well, want another 30 or 40 jobs at least.
