Title: what do you do?
Post by: drew86 on August 17, 2006, 05:40:38 pm
Hi been leaflet droping with the intention of following up in a few days with a door knock, but most of the houses seem to have the no callers welcome stickers, should i call back, what do you do in this situation.
I would like to call as I'am not getting any work from leaflets at the moment.

Drew.

Don't just drop leaflets... You have to doorknock if you want to build up your round!

I just ignore the dont call stickers unless it specifally says no tradesmen.

Thats the problem, they all say words to that effect, not the old type of sticker just stating we're not buying it, they have a picture of a bell with no sellers or canvasers warning not to press the bell.

I think you'd be alright to call, the sort of people they are trying to discourage is door to door salesmen who wont take no for an answer.

I would say something like this,

" I can see your no salesmen sticker in the door so I'll be brief, I'm a local WCer & wondered if you needed a regular, reliable windowcleaner."

If you use their possible objection in your introduction then they will have to listen to what you have to say for a few seconds.

In my experience people want to know 2 things when you knock on their door.

1. Who are you ?

2. What do you want ?

The sooner you answer those 2 fundamental questions the quicker you will put the householder at ease.

OK - You look at sticker which says no door-to-door sales, no jw's, no mormons, no tradesmen etc.

Unless it specifically says "No window-cleaners" you've got a loophole.

Householder: (Door creaks open) You rang?

You:- (Dressed smart/casual, no f*gs) Oh, hello - I'm Drew, the local window cleaner - I clean several of the houses in your (road, area, block) and I'm looking to fill a couple of gaps in my round - I'm sure you'd agree it's difficult finding reliable workmen nowadays - would you like me to quote for your requirements? I can do it right now or whenever's convenient to you..... (shut up and wait for response)

Householder: Ok

or:-

Householder: Naaah! (Or words to that effect)

You: OK, thanks for your time have a good evening, bye now - oh here's my leaflet if you change your mind I'll be about (next week, whenever) look out for my car - it's an (orange estate, Ford model T, etc) just come and ask me.

If they have the card at the door then just drop off your flyer and leave it at that, if they want you they will call you.

If you ignore their "No canvassers" card then you will just rile them.

My opinion anyway.
