Title: Pole carrier help needed!
Post by: Clear Vision on August 06, 2006, 09:43:45 pm
Hi all,

A friend of mine gave me a length of pipe he had lying at his farm for me to use on the roof of my van for the pole.

I went to my local builders merchants and got a cap for the end at the front of the van.

My problem Is, where do I put the hose from the brush head as I use it on the outside of the pole.

I have been pushing the pole into the pipe and opening the back door and trapping the hos in there. This keeps the pole from sliding out when traveling, but Is'nt 100% safe.

How else can I secure the pole in place and where can I store the hose?

Here Is a pic

What you need to do is get a screw cap for the end of the pipe and cut a groove along the pipe the gooseneck can slid into then you will be able to screw the screw cap on.

Then trap your hose in the van door as it will poke out the groove you cut.

Here is a pic of my last van like that but i have nothing closeup

Paul,

The pipe Is a odd size. I can't get a screw cap for it :(

I don't quite follow you with the part where you cut a groove in the cap. If the pole can slide in, the pole can slide out?

Personaly I can't suss that one out. (maybe It's getting late)

No its not the cap you cut the groove in.
Its the end of the pipe and when you have the cap on it can't come out

judging by the photo though you'll need a longer pipe to to that

This is how you do it.

The picture of the soil pipe below where i put the red that is the groove you cut the same width as your gooseneck.

Now the screw cap remove it from its holder and cut the holder as shown by the red again and then glue this in the end of the pipe both grooves lining up.

Once in place you have your groove and the end cap will screw on.

And the cap for the other end just glue in

You can get all of this from screw fix just type in soil pipe.
Also halfords sell a kit to fix these to your roof rack for about £10

Why not just unclick the cranked angle from he pole and puy the complete brush assembly inside the van. Which you may have to do when its frosty.
