in respect to the website on the link, there are no licences given to window cleaners in south ayrshire,as the council feel there is no need for them,i also believe that all other ayrshire councils have cancelled the need to have a licence to work within their boundaries,i have this direct from south ayrshire council through having meetings with them and also have it in writing.
therefore i object strongly to being called a `cowboy`considering my company has grown to such an extent that we are now a `limited`company.
to protect my company i will obviously be keeping an eye on anything this website does,i would also advise they change how they describe `cowboys`,there are more than plenty of them about, but my views on what is `cowboy` and what is not obviously differs from the owner of the site.
sorry about the rant but i am pretty pi**ed off about this as you can probably tell.

  Brian,

Sorry you may have the wrong impression, but you have to take into
consideration the guys where licenses are required that pay for this
and insurance. That is the law of the council and the Scottish Parliament
  as I have been told.

What anoys some licensed window cleaners is that they stick to the law
required and other folks do not. Is that fair.
Same situation with taxi drivers, would you get into an illegal taxi. I know
  that is off the point.

Fair play your county does not require a license so this does not effect you,
but it effects people in other counties. No offence but thats the law as Stirling
and other counties state you cannot work without a license.

It's there to protect the public.

  Each to their own opinion.

  Brian,

Just had a quick check on the website and as you said South Aryshire is not
included so does not implement yourself.

  Cheers

  Doug

no problem, but ....`In due course the SLWCN will be launching a public awarness campaign, with the aim of reducing the unlicensed "cowboy" element within our industry`.
if they go ahead `launching a public awareness campaign` and i have to spend half my day explaining to clients that i do not need licences it will cause me a lot of `down time` therefore i lose revenue,i presume that when this `public awareness`is being done it will be pointed out that some areas do not need it.
P.S. i lobbied the south ayrshire council personally for 1 and a half years to give us licences and they POINT BLANK refused, there response was that it would not solve anything within our business.SO if anyone can explain the council`s ridiculous attitude to this ,to me,i`d be most grateful.

Working in Wales, (I'm not Welsh mind; nor am I English; I'm a Geordie from the Kingdom of Northumbria), I'm amused that you Scottish window cleaners need licences in the first place.

I mean we're not like plumbers or sparks, where mistakes could possibly cost a customer's life.  We don't need to be Corgi registered or anything.

What's the reason for it?

i do think the whole idea behind the  SLWCN  is very good and all things considered i will definately join,i am just unsure of how we(my company) will look when all the licence stuff is being advertised, due to the failings(in my eyes)of my local authority.
P.S. TAM ...I will definately give you a call,as i am interested in becoming involved with the SLWCN ,hopefully i may recieve some help to convince my local council aswell ;)

Sandy, this is the third thread you have started whereby you do not subsequently reply! Are you just fishing for info?!

You know guys, i've only met one nice comerade window cleaner in glasgow either on streets or on this forum! Maybe its just a city mentality, each one for himself and all?
Ben
