Hi Nick
I contacted the police, who said police checks are for individuals, and are not to be used as vetting for staff as all offences etc are not on it.
CRB check is what you need, but they are pricey around £70 a pop.
That is if you can find an umberalla body to do it for you.
look at www.crb.gov.uk

Many of you will remember our old friend CMS
He recommended (on more than 1 occasion)
http://www.harwinassociates.co.uk/
We have signed up with them but have not yet actually passed anything through them.
Notwithstanding that, they have been extremely prompt and professional in all our dealings to date and I would be happy to recommend them

It's seems expensive doesn't it! What if you spend up to £70 and employ the person and she/he decides a day later they don't want the job!
It should be free really, it's for the safety and benefit of others so why should employers pay. Crazy :-\

Hi Guys,
CRB Checks are a pain in the rear, myself and business partner had to be checked due to a school cleaning contract we have started and it took at least two months to return which delayed all work and caused everyone inconvenience.
Hope its not the same everytime.
