Title: New Starter
Post by: Scrimble on July 31, 2006, 03:17:53 pm
Hi

I have just started my window cleaning round with only a couple of customers, not a problem as i plan to get more!

I am going to go door knocking but i wanted to ask how effective advertisments were in local newsagents and shops i.e alldays, spa, co-op.

also what is the best way to price up small shops? like a travel agents with only the front which needs doing?

does anyone have any flyers and business card designs using microsoft publisher that they wouldnt mind sharing?

Thanks

Mark

Hi Mark,

Welcome to the forum.

In answer to you question, I personally have found newsagents, local magazines to be more effective than newspapers themselves.

To be noticed in a newspaper requires big adverts which require big fee's. When is the last time, if ever, you have seen a large advert about window cleaning in a newspaper, I really think it doesn't work that well.

Canvass, leaflets small adverts will work to start with.

Best of luck,

Trev

I put a total of 5 cards in 5 differant stores last night and now have two new customers  :)

nothing too fancy but seems to have done the trick, will find more shops to advertise in.

I've had 6 cards in shops, mostly for a few weeks each but two on permanent display for months, and only got 1 customer.

I wasn't going to bother with any more but maybe I just got unlucky with my choices and I think I'll try some more!

Hi John....I just got 2000 leaflets printed and am intending to get 250 out a day, then will be canvassing the same area's.

As with most things....I suppose this type of thing is a numbers game....

Cheers
Dave :)

There's nothing to beat face-to-face contact. I find that leaflets dropped through letterboxes just end up in the bin.

Other than that, shop windows are the cheapest way to attract local people's attention. You just have to remember to keep going back to renew the advert. Changing the design and layout of the ad from time to time might also help.

I have advertised in about ten shops and so far i have 5 customers from the cards which have been there for about 2 weeks.

not bad me thinks, I'm going to go door knocking soon just been real busy.

what sort of houses give the best results? I presume bungelows as i have found older people i.e oap's are the ones who require my services.
