Hi. Can anyone tell me if i can claim for the petrol used for window cleaning as tax deductable ? If so can i only claim the VAT amount or the whole amount ? Ive got a couple of tax books but can't seem to find the simple answer !!! I do commercial stuff quite a way from home. Ive kept all my petrol receipts. I'm not VAT registered as i don't turn over the £50,000 + for that . Can anyone clarify for me????

You can claim your petrol expenses against tax, but if you also use your vehicle for personal use, the most you can claim will be about 75%
Ditto your car insurance and car tax, but again, only a percentage relative to the personal use of your vehicle.
You can always ring the tax man, they are actually not that scary :o

If you don't claim for your vehicle expenses, you have the option of claiming 40p per mile instead. As I do 50 odd miles on most days I choose the latter option. Dai

You can claim for all your petrol including VAT.
As mentioned, if you use your vehicle for personal use then you will get a % deducted relevant to the amount of personal usage.
