Booked my van in for MOT/service on Fri 16th Jan. I'm going to get mine done at Halfords as its very local to me here and it was the same price as my local independent garage where I used to live.(£230).

It's forecast to get below freezing overnight this weekend coming so don't get caught out lads in regards to your RO. I'll certainly be sticking my heater on in my insulated shed and one in my van just make sure my hot water system remains frost free.
It could be a snowy start to the new year.....
You have been warned......🙂

Put 2 bottles of Catclean in diesel and drove down the motorway and back again and run my webasto heater. Changed my oil, air filter, fuel filter and oil filter yesterday. So for £230 for Mot and service is a good price because I'm around £80 for parts.

Personally I would go with a garage I trust over Halfords, they are more likely to have a greater knowledge/skillset.

My so called 'trusted garage' forgot to plug my MAF sensor back in after a service last year. This is basic stuff which should of been checked off. I won't be using them again...besides I don't live in that area anymore.
Actually Halfords employ a range of people young and older mechanics alike. I'm sure an MOT and service is well within their skill set pal.😆

I can recommend a couple of local garages if you like Daz? I wouldn’t trust Halfords to change a bulb nevermind do a full service.

All booked and paid for. I'm sure it will be fine but going forward i do need a good, local garage. Unfortunately the one round the corner from me crashed my missus car and lied to her face about it. They paid up in the end but I would NEVER use them again. The lad who works for them is an absolute scumbag!
You just can't trust a lot of garages these days....

Ive always had excellent service from Halfords. They came to my house to replace 2 tyres and the price was a lot cheaper than my local tyre place.
Easy to book and pay online too. They also sorted me out with a battery in the past and fitted it. The battery compartment in my connect is in a really awkward place(wedged under passenger side bonnet) so I was happy to pay £10 to fit it!🙂👍

Used Halfords for years from a pickup to custom and last few years on a Boxer, only issue was they marked NSF disc as low when it was the tyre tread.
They've changed everything they were meant to and half the price than other places.
Had my Boxer serviced by HGV mechanics couple of weeks ago where I was working, only because of convenience and then took it to Halfords for mot while looking around shop.
No issues with them.

If you’re getting it done at Halfords you’d be better getting the Premium Motoring Club Membership. Think it’s £49.99 and gives you a free MOT, a £10 welcome voucher, 5% off purchases and probably 5-10% off your service.

Daz why is that sediment filter so orange ? Reason I’m asking is I’ve used an ro system for 17 years and never had a filter that colour
4 month intervals(sediment and chlorine filters). Same condition as last time.

How old is your van now Daz? How do you get the DPF to regenerate properly with your short non motorway journeys? Have you had to replace DPF so far or have it cleaned? They are eventually consumable parts so just wondering if it's original on your older van?

My van is 8 years old. I've never had a problem with the DPF and neither has my missus(she has the same van and it's 8 years old too)
My missus has got 95k on the clock on hers and im on 29k.
All original DPFs

My van is 18 years young and I bought those pellets Mike Brewer advertises for £45 for 5. Put them in my tank 10 years ago and can count on one hand how many times my light has came on.
Yesterday and today we were all down helping my mate who owns a garage fill 3 big holes in the garage floor where we removed the car oven from so he can get another 2 ramps fitted. I provided all the tools, Mixer, and kango. Started at 7am and finished for 1pm. We got all the stuff from B&Q because nowhere was open and I used my van 8 times to deliver it but its only 2 miles away. This will give it a week to cure and he will get the ramps fitted in 28 days when fully cured.
My starter motor went a few weeks ago and my mate swapped it over in 20 minutes because he has the 4 ton ramp. It cost me less than £150 for a new one and he did it for free. Turns out he is the handiest mate I have now but as long as we all work as a team and help each other everything just clicks into place.
What I'm trying to say is, if you find or have a mate who is a mechanic then try and hang on to them like me. I started off cleaning his windows for free and still clean them which takes 5 minutes every month. Drop in a box of orange mechanic gloves now and then when discussing how to make our working life easier but it all comes down to being a team player.

Checked van tyre pressures and condition(good)
WD40 on ladder clamps/padlock
Screwed some new hooks in shed/general tidy up
Run van engine for 30 mins to prevent flat battery (I've not driven it for 11 days)
Filled up a container with ice melt grit for some customers driveways if it's icy in the new year.
Cleaned my 2 main 35cm brushes
Garage now clear of junk ready for new roller door getting fitted this friday. Skip got collected yesterday.
It's going to be a good start to the new year. Remember PPPPPP!

It’s rust from old metal pipes

Ive streamlined everything now to do with my van. I only have a box of nitrile gloves in the cab (and a pair of glacier gloves if it gets really cold),1 hat,1 cap and 2 goretex jackets.
