Title: New Estate
Post by: Scottish Cleaning Service on December 14, 2025, 09:19:21 am
We have a new estate developing up the road from me. I have about 8 customers now and not many window cleaners on the estate. I went in and spoke to the sales woman and she knew who I was because they were talking to the residents on the estate.

When I first drove in and posted some cards I didn't expect to pick up many. I only got one small clean for a tenner a month and its growing all the time. Will be dropping off a few boxes of chocolates in the sales office for all their help. I always go up at weekends when most of the residents are home.

This is for anyone who wants to target a new estate.

If you aren't full and want to pick up customers,

Every new house gets a welcome pack from the builder.

Tell them your willing to clean the show house show house every 2 weeks, on the condition your leaflet goes in the welcome pack. If you really want work, put on the leaflet the first cleans free.

If you dont get calls then go chapping the doors and ask when they want there free clean scheduled for.

Trust me, youl pick up absolute loads of them.

Some will say they wouldn't do that as it's working for nothing. But it gets you a much, much bigger return than canvasing would.

And if you haven't enough work anyway. You'd be sitting in the house.

Spot on, I do the first clean for free in that estate. Would like to move into the estate and I would do my customers wheelie bins for free. You need money to live in this estate going by the council tax bands, they all seem to be a band higher than anywhere else in the town.

I've only ever done it once, but the work i gained from it was more than worth while, if they didn't phone i used to go around with a clip board and ask when they would like booked in for there free clean.  If you can get the house building company on board it makes it look alot more professional, as they read the welcome back and will see the leaflet in it, so your already something they have seen and puts them more at ease i think.

Sure you won't get every house you do, you get more than you dont though. It's alot of people's first homes, they are still in the mind set of keeping the appearance all nice etc. It's the best possible time to get people on board to get it cleaned regularly.

Only have 2 at a tenner and the other 6 are £15 a month. They are all near each other so don't need to move the van, I could batter them out in an hour if I don't chat with the customers. If I decide to move in to the estate then I would need a carrot so i could pick up most of them. 178 houses even at a tenner is a nice monthly earner. I do the wheelie bins for free, take them out night before, clean and put back in the next day. Once the estate is complete and I have most of the customers then I could increase my price. I think that's how big businesses work, they give one a cheap subscription and then increase with at least inflation every year. 😉

You clean the bins on the same day as you clean the windows? What if you're behind on the windows or take a week off? Where does that leave the bins? How do you clean the bins? Where does the dirty water go?

This isn't adding up to me.
