So does anyone drop any hints about tips to customers?
Similar to pubs and restaurants!
In your texts would it be a simple 'Happy Christmas' at the end of your I'm coming tomorrow texts? Or a more direct approach asking those who pay by GoCardless to let you know if they want a tip amount to be added to the total? Hoping with others not on GC to take the hint.
I've seen a drop in tips over the years as I think we get forgotten about.
Although I've never droped any hints before as thought it's a bit cheeky. But how else to we get our Xmas bonus or even a bit of money to cover our lost days of work over the holidays.
Just food for thought guys.

Personally don’t agree with tipping , we especially should not need to worry about them if you are reliant on tips then you are doing something very wrong , if ones choose to give a tip that’s up to them but we would never drop any hints , if a tradesman did that to me he certainly wouldn’t be getting one . Any tips we get the staff have and ime more than happy with that .

Even though I don't work anymore I have never during my working life dropped any hints with reference to tipping.
Like most WC's we did get a few and thanked the customers accordingly but I would never expect it or even drop hint ie xmas cards .
-
It all sounds a bit desperate to me, ive never expected tips and tbh they are almost non existent theses days anyway, its certainly dying out.
Daz sends them a card as a bit of manipulative giving i believe ;D
You may as well just ask them

If someone sent me that text then I'd think there a cheeky bar steward and probably camcel them. If they want to give you a tip then they will. It's a but cheeky mentioning it to them tbh.
I have found that since bank paymeants, the tips have declined no there not paying cash.
Next youl be putting a santa outfit on when the 1st of December comes to go round the run.

I was told to hand out Christmas cards by some old timer once but couldn't be bothered. One of my posh customers gives me a score every year as a tip and I must admit I like him more than all the rest on that posh estate. Every since my paper boy days in the 1970s I have always taken to customers who give me tips. 🤔

I'd prefer they reward a years good service with a positive Google review to be fair :D

No just don’t agree with dropping unsubtle hints about tips , if someone did that to me it would be the last time they ever did work for me . We charge a reasonable price for what we do and don’t expect a tip but if customers want to that’s up to them .

It costs me around £12 for 200 xmas cards. I start posting mine from the 1st December on my work thats due. I have a stamp so I don't have to write each one out. I usually get around 50 cards from customers and of course some put cash tips in them too. Its nice to able to give them a card back.
I think it helps with the tips too. I usually hit around the £400-£600 mark which comes in handy over the Xmas holidays.🙂👍

By the way I don't buy my missus xmas presents or any of my family. I donate some money to the salvation army or a children's charity instead. (Apart from giving my stepson and daughter some money in a card on xmas day).😄

Of course none of us rely on tips but its nice when they do. It costs me around £14k in tax/insurances and expenses every year just to run my part time business and it's only going to get worse after the budget so extra money is welcome....

Got a tenner yesterday on Friday. First of the few. But all welcome.

I always send Christmas cards as a thank you for continuous custom, that usually reminds them to give a Xmas tip if they’re inclined to. What I receive in tips far outweighs the costs of the Xmas cards I get printed up, I change the design of my cards every year but always something with my logo on them.

I bought 160 NSPCC xmas cards for £8 today and I have an ink stamp so ill start stamping them in preparation for 1st Dec.🙂

Classic one today. I do a small £15.00 house where they pay cash and the retired geezer gave me a tip.
He hands over £40 and says here's a Christmas tip too.
I reply that's incredibly generous, thank you!
He says no problem your service is reliable and worth it. Then he goes back in.
One minute later his wife comes out and says how they are terribly sorry they meant to round it up to £20 not £40 and the other money was for 'someone else'.
I laughed and asked why her husband hadn't come out and told me.
She said he's too embarrassed and is skulking inside.
I said I thought it was generous but no worries, and handed back the £20.
;D ;D ;D
-
I`ll bet hes gone back in and told her he gave you 40 quid and shes gone mad :D
-
Tips seem slow this year but the ones I am getting have been mostly cash (so I don't have to declare them). 🙂👍

It cost me £8 for 160 cards. I'm more bothered about getting paid for the window clean as some customers can forget with the mad xmas rush so the card tends to jog their memory! Obviously some will tip too....
...every little helps......😎👍

Yea I've noticed the same. Those rich folks with big properties and fancy cars never tip, but the average family and retired couples are the best tippers, but even that's slowed down. Times are hard.

It doesn't look like I'm going to be breaking any records this year :'( very slow atm.

£122, a bottle of wine and 5 cards up to now. Better than nothing but I usually get around £400-£500 altogether but I reckon I'll be doing well to reach £300 this year.
Everybody is being squeezed from every direction financially. Ive paid my tax bill early this year just to get it out of the way. Im over £5k lighter now...
-
I’ve found the opposite, very rarely get many tips but nearly £200 already this year with the bulk of my residential work still to do. Quite a few have been out to tip in cash but still pay for the clean online which has never happened before.
-
Just chased up a customer who usually pays on the day or the day after. Did the job Friday - little reminder by text Tuesday.
Literally less than 4 minutes later I get "Oops sorry - a bit extra included for Xmas." An extra £20 added to the bill.
Then yesterday a small commercial custy gave me six bottles of Katy cider! Result.
;D
-
Up to £234 and a bottle of wine at present (and around 20 cards).
Still got 4 days work left next week...🙂
-
Just a fiver so far ;D
-
£280, a bottle of wine, a litre of Bailey’s and a box of chocolates. ;D
-
£308 and a bottle of wine. Not bad and still 3 days of mainly domestics to clean.
Looking forward to the break now. I was due to finish tomorrow but had Monday off due to torrential rain so I'll be working Friday.
-
Got a £4 'round up' yesterday.
And an old girl gave me a fiver and a ginormous 360g bar of Galaxy chocolate. ;D
-
Another £51 in tips today and I fully expect to hit the £400 mark now by the end of Friday. The great thing this year its mostly cash instead of online!🙂
-
Last job of the day, £100 clean with a £50 tip taking me to £380 ish for the year, not bad considering I only have 102 domestic customers. ;D
Couple of care homes to clean on Monday then done until the 2nd 8)
-
Ive finished now until 5th January. Schedule moved forward 2 weeks and worksheets download ed to phone for the new year and even printed slips out for the Monday!
£430 up to now but fully expect to get more as customers continue to pay me online over the xmas period. I could hit £500 this year. I usually get a few in the new year too during first week back.
Happy Xmas everyone!🙂👍
