Title: Wont forget this one...
Post by: Spotfree on October 17, 2025, 09:47:29 pm
Had about 20 mins of sheer panic today, did a job where this guy has 3 xl bullies, these dogs are known killers and every time I pull up it realy gets them angry.

The guy usualy has them in the back of the house, the snarling always makes my blood cold.

Today they were in the front window and as soon as I started cleaning they went crackers, jumped on the back of the couch which is met by the window cill. I noticed quickly the window latch was half open, then even more quickly as they were trying to bite the window one bumped the latch with his massive head and knocked it open.

I crapped myself and very quickly leant on the window to contain them, the nearest fence was around 50m away, I knew straight away that if I let go of the window and ran for the fence I probably wouldnt make it.

So with one arm I kept the window shut and the other I rang the guy, he's only in ireland and at a funeral!! I told him the situ, he said he had to get off the phone as the cars were rolling in, he said he'd ring his son to come round.

So I stood there for 20 mins with the blood thirsty beasts pushing on the window, my god it felt like hours waiting for someone to come and help.

His son turned up in his van and went in and secured the window, he said " realy appreciate you keeping them in ", I said "no problem mate, be honest though I didnt have much choice".

Hairiest moment in 15 years, I'll be honest was actualy scared for my life today, still went around and made my £40 though.

Moral of the story? Dont canvass my work!

We had a similar situation with an Alsatian that could open the doors , ended up dumping the job it just wasn’t worth the risk of getting bitten , had a member off staff got his fingers bitten putting a bill through a letter box by a collie not long after it bit the postman and was then put down , any aggressive dogs it’s not worth the stress and hassle.

Personally I wouldn’t entertain a job like that it’s not worth any amount of money.
Get attacked  bythat type of dog and you be either dead or not able to work again

I've got a job where they have an xl bully, and I won't do the back unless customer comes out and assures me dog is securely inside. If the dogs out, he literally creeps upto the back gate and waits for me without making a sound.
I wonder what the outcome for you would have been if the owner hadn't been available to answer his phone!

When I was in the fire brigade I saw the police with a carbon dioxide fire extinguisher. I asked them what they used it for and they told me if they get attacked by a dog. I said by cracking them over the head with it.  😂

Can picture what he looks like owning they dogs. Hed get told to gtf and I wouldn't be back.  One of them gets a hold of you and your dead over £40.

I absolutely love dogs, these dogs shouldn't be allowed though and should be put down.

They may aswell let you walk around with a tiger or a lion on a lead aswell.

I watched a video of 2 grown me  trying to stop one. One guy hut it with a shovel a few times and the thing was wagging it's tail. Bounced 2 grown men out the way like a normal dog does with a cuddly toy.

You wouldn't be able to stop 1 of these things if they got you, never mind 3.

You see on the police videos when there chasing someone in woods or that, they get told come out or they will release the German sheperd. 9 times out of 10 when they hear that they come out from wherever they are.  The 1 in 10 who somehow think the dog doesn't know where they are. Must absolutely poo themselves when they see about 7 stone of dog is coming towards them at close to 30mph.

At that speed, the moment the dog impacts them must be a sore one. It knocks them back a good few feet anyway.

Absolutely no way would i take the job on in the first place. Most of my customers with pets have cockerpoos, spaniels or persian cats!😆

Hope you can see the funny side now but dump the job no question. Its just not worth the hassle mate. In fact I don't have a single job that own large, aggressive dogs.

Ive dumped loads of houses that have dogs. I wont go in back gardens with any dog knowingly.

I used to clean a house with 2 rotties. You could seen them in the front room when cleaning the front which I always did first. Woman was in there with them.

One day I did the front, she saw me, dogs in front room. I went round back. I came face to face with one snarling at me, I lowered my slx in defence, it came forward i backed up with the brush pointed towards it. Fumble for the gate behind me then went for it. The thing launched at me and just made it Indiana Jones style from the snapping of its frothing jaws.

Heart rate was through the roof never went back there

The vast majority of dogs are fine, the chances of getting a real bite are very, very slim. By a real bite , I mean one that your going to the hospital to get treatment.

I go into back gardens all the time with dogs, infact, if it's a new one and I see a dog out the back il actively move faster to try get to it incase they shout it in.  I buy dog treats for to give to them.

I absolutely love dogs though.  I obviously wouldn't walk into a garden if I thought it was going to bite me, I've had dogs all my life though. And although I'm not dr dolittle, I kinda know if it's going to be safe or not for me to go into the garden by the dogs  behaviour.  Theres a difference in even the way a dog barks when its going to be aggressive with you.

I've never been bitten yet, and I've walked in gates where there's been a dog barking at the other side ot it.

Even dogs where they say that they won't come up to me if I start doing there windows. I end up getting them over and they say it's strange as there dogs not usually that good with strangers.

Of of my family members said I must stink or something and that's why they come over.

I'm one of they weirdos who likes dogs more than I like people.

Have a wealthy customer who had a XL bully, it used to frighten me pulling up in the van in this gated house, dog was absolutely fine, but would follow me round for a bit and jump up for attention. Owner would always call the dog away or bring it in after a few mins.

I was about to dump the job as after a few months I decided this is playing with fire.

Great news though, I turned up one morning and the Dog was gone, it was his partners dog and they split up. Result.

I am absolutely fine with dogs, have no fear of them, but this XL bully made me nervous.

In hindsight, I should never have agreed to clean the windows if the dog was out. XL bully’s are not the sort of Dog to be trusted.

I will never clean the windows of a customer with an XL bully again, unless the dog is securely locked inside. It’s a new rule I’ll sticking to!

I don't particularly like dogs and I wouldn't trust one not to bite me they are animals. Ive had customers want to introduce me to their dog lol why I don't want to stroke your dog thanks get it out of my way.

1 of 2 things is going to happen if im attacked, bitten or feel threatened by a dog . Im getting hurt or it's getting hurt. Neither is going to make the customer very happy.

I don't risk it, I just don't go in and I don't care if they are  just the little yappy things they are often more aggressive.

I turned up to clean one last week and the dog was out, knocked the door no answer ok front only then.

I've mentioned in the past that I've been bitten 8 times in 21 yrs window cleaning, always small dogs. I must be incredibly unlucky. Still love big dogs but now very wary, no time for yappy footshaggers at all, don't want them anywhere near me.

I would say you are lucky not to have been bitten by a big dog.

Medium to larger size dogs generally have powerful jaws. I was bitten once by a labrador and you can really feel the power of the jaws when it bites. I was lucky I quickly  got the dog to back off and no serious harm done.

If a dog bites me I'll be reporting it & it'll hopefully be put down. It's not acceptable. End of.

Dogs don't just go around biting people for fun.  When they do bite, there's usually several warning signs by the dog before that, which the person has either not picked up on or ignored them.

I used to do a woman with a German sheperd, she thought it would be a good idea for a first dog.  The dog used to be mental barking at me at the gate, I told her to go inside and leave the dog out.  It's not going to bite me, although barking, it wasn't an aggressive bark.  She wasn't confident the dog wouldn't bite me.  I told her if even 5% of me thought that dog was going to bite me i wouldn't be going in.

As soon as I opened the gate it ran up barking then stopped when it noticed I wasn't moving back the way. Then when I went forward it ran away and wouldn't come near me.  Ended up taking a few times.but eventually the dog didn't even bark anymore and started coming to me while I was there.

If you think a dogs aggressive and it's coning for you, instead of trying to run, when it gets close, in a stern voice point and say sit. Every dog knows that command and you'd be suprised at how many dogs will listen to to you when saying it.

In my case the owner was returning from walking the dogs onto her property (set in very large grounds), the dogs were off lead, I just stood still as the dogs ran upto me and the Labrador jumped and grabbed my forearm in its jaws. I could feel the pressure of the bite increasing and I just got very angry with dog and shouted very aggressively at it, which made it back down.

If I had remained passive my injury (which was mild) would have been a lot worse. It was surreal because I could really feel great power in the dog's jaws and it was impressive in a sense.

If I had been attacked by an XL Bully, no way would I have got it to back off and I might be dead. Some dog breeds are generally more aggressive and some dogs just have a more aggressive temperament. The dog that bit me was later put down due to another incident it was involved in.

I am a person who likes dogs.

Why the hell would anyone want to work where there is uncontrollable ferocious dogs, need your head examined, not worth the risk, sod that!
