Every year I buy a big Gardiner order. This year its an Extreme 18 pole, 3 Extreme 350mm stiff brushes and bits and pieces. Like to order on a Monday so I get it for Friday. I fit new brushes on my 35' 25' and 22' poles and fit the old ones on my 18' poles.
When I began I used to buy one of this and one of that when we got free delivery but have to pay now. I now have a stock of stuff because more customers means brush wears out quicker.
Just wondering if anyone else buys in advance after they have went for an order and its out of stock?

How do you know when your brush is worn out?

I ordered an Xtreme 25 yesterday and 2 x 35cm Xtreme sill brushes(stiff/flocked)and an extra long scraper and scrubbing pad.
£818-04!
I fully expect this pole and brush combo to last at least 2 years before replacement.
My current Xtreme 25 is just over 2 years old but I've already replaced section 1 and 3 with old sections from various poles from my pole graveyard and some of the carbon fibre is starting to splinter when clamping. These type of splinters are horrible if they get under your skin.
I only ever use one main 25ft Xtreme pole and a high level 47 footer that I bought for £850 well over 10 years ago now....
I usually buy a few bits and bobs(brushes,o clips, etc) once a year but only buy a new pole every 2 years now.
-
Pole getting delivered tomorrow morning. That's good old gardiner service! Still a fantastic company to deal with IMO.

lol I would hardly call one pole and 3 brushes a big order , a big order is spending several thousands of pounds at the same time

I actually thought I would get one for my contribution to the cleaning industry. None arrived so I'm writing FireSDO, a mini series, now on to the second episode, watch this space.

How do you know when your brush is worn out?
When the bristles begin to go from vertical to horizontal and the plastic ends wear away.

Over £800, so its a big order to me. I hate needing something and then finding out its sold out. Lets face it, not much is going to come down in price.

This was a genuine question that I have asked before with no response.
I have an old brush which is well past it's sell by date. I'll put up a couple of photos tomorrow. I use this brush every day. It still has the old Gardiner jets. It looks tatty. I have a new identical equivalent brush with the new cartridge jets.
I started to use the new brush on Friday, but I've put my old go to brush back on as it works better in my opinion.
I recall Teesside Window Cleaners put up an advertising video on Facebook once. The brush a staff member was using had lots of missing bristles. He still cleaned that window and sill to an acceptable standard.
-
Personally I love a nice new brush. It feels much better & is easier to use. Once the bristles start curling, mashing & shortening it doesn’t get in the corners as well making the job harder. Anything that helps make this job more bearable I’m all for.

Maybe its like an old trowel that plasters use. They hate a new trowel because it takes weeks to blend it in and get used to it. Like Simon says, once you can't get into corners then its time to replace it. I used to hold for longer but not anymore because my new business plan is all about time I take. Once I'm happy with the scrub then its a rinse and a move on. Too many customers now, so even happy it I lose a few in the process.

Like everything in life, it’s a balance. In an ideal world I’d replace my brush every week or two. I tend to use the Gardiner supreme flocked but they don’t last long. And it’s obviously not sustainable to replace that frequently at £50 odd a pop.
Towards the end when i was trad i used to change my rubber every few days due to the much better feel of the squeegee in the glass.

The one thing that annoys me over here compared to the UK is delivery time and cost. It’s not unusual for deliveries to take a month here. I upgraded my truck’s sign writing 3 weeks ago using an online design service, won’t arrive til Thursday.
I need two extra lengths of gutter vac poles. From the US. $250 delivery! In the UK that’d be free, from spinaclean.

Loving this brush/jet combo!
I'm well equipped to smash through my workloads!😎👍🙂🌞

Just got a new slx 18, does me for about 90% of my work now. Soldier on with a slx 25 for the rest of the work. Been meaning to buy an extreme for ages..... but the price of them given its only going to last a year at best....maybe it would make more sense just to slowly drop higher work and become a 100% 18ft. Would certainly make life a lot easier the bigger jobs take it out of me these days.

Its brilliant. Go out in the morning and do 4 hours cleaning, thinking about the chapter I'm on. Come back in and write it up, perfect combination. My Extreme 18 arrived this afternoon so I was in to collect it. Built it up and ready to rock and roll tomorrow morning again. Lost 3 customers a few days ago because they are going back to Trad and I didn't blink an eye as I have another project on the go. 😉

Have you not fitted the long scraper yet? I ran with my new 18 Extreme today and long scraper on behind brush. Great, much better than the short scraper combo. Raced through my cleaning this morning and trousered well over 2 ton. I would advise anyone, if they can afford it, to buy this setup, I like the red jets but the scraper can save a fair bit of time I have noticed.
-
I only use the long scraper on one run of work(4 days worth)where the bee spots are off the scale. Its a good scraper but i find it can be a hindrance when cleaning certain types of windows in tight frames/surrounds,etc.
Most of my other work i can clean to a good standard without the need for a scraper/scourer.

The trouble I find is that the older I get, the heavier my daily pole gets. ;D
So if you experience the same symptoms as I do, then there will come a time when your SLX18 will be too heavy for you.

Exactly, bought a new slx last year and couldn't believe how heavy it was compared to the Extreme. I get tennis elbow alot and it happens around Wimbledon time, bizarre.

Spruce do you not do any strength training whatsoever? It's even more important at your age. Its never too late to start my friend.
