As we work in an body hungry occupation, we could argue we get enough exercise working. But it's important to keep in shape in readiness for our job.
What other outside activities if any do you chaps do? I play golf once a week. Even if I struggle for time I make sure I go to the golf range twice a week. The golf swing really loosens the body up for our job.
I find the golf swing uses my back and shoulder muscles to work side to side where our job uses it more up and down. Really helps me to balance my body out and reduce any of my RSI symptoms.

Absolutely no way is window cleaning enough to keep you fit. Certainly not for me anyway...
Gym 2 or 3 times a week focusing on full body strength training to slow down sarcopenia and build muscle as I age.
Walking the dog
Playing drums most days of the week is excellent cardio.
Holidays I bike too and swim in the pool/ocean
Basic yoga stretches too for keeping joints and tendons supple and in good nick.
The only golf I play is crazy golf on holiday which I really enjoy....I don't bother with 'proper' golf!😂👍

I run 3 to 4 times a week, usually about 15-20 miles total, and I do plenty of walking, 960 consecutive days of hitting 10k steps now.
That’s does it for me and keeps the weight off. If I were to stop running and rely on window cleaning I’d pile the pounds on.

Was playing 6 a side football once a week at age 56, had to give up a few months ago as was feeling pain in my cruciate ligament and being self employed couldn’t afford a bad injury. I play golf 2-3 times a week, it’s the first competition of the season today.

Working most of the time with outside jobs is good for exercise. Today I was 6 hours fitting a new axle seal and I was knackered after it. Thought it would take me few hours but nothing went the way it should have. I try and maintain a steady normal weight and this job works wonders. I'm a tad over 13 stone, 59 next month and feel like I was in my forties so this game must be good for our health that's what I have found out.

Quite agree, i average about 12,000 steps on a work day and make sure i continue the good routine by getting off my arse and walking to the fridge of an evening to fetch my own beer/snacks. On occasion, i'll walk all the way to the pub and walk back (in a fashion) without getting a taxi. Its this sort of strict disciplined regime that'll see me through to retirement.

So glad I don't feel the need to throw alcohol down my neck anymore or smoke.....
I've lived the rock n roll lifestyle and it's very unhealthy and I'm much happier and content now than my former wild lifestyle
I'm off to take the dog for a walk now while listening to an audio book,a few household chores,nip to Asda for some apples and ice cream then I'm making a tarte tatin for later and a cottage pie. Make the missus a bacon sandwich at lunchtime while she's decorating and a few hours on the drums this afternoon...
A spectacularly ordinary day but fantastic too....

That’s does it for me and keeps the weight off. If I were to stop running and rely on window cleaning I’d pile the pounds on.
I definitely need to up my game. I'm the heaviest I've ever been progressing since starting window cleaning lol.
Feel like an unfit 60 year old some day and only 37. Haven't played rugby for nearly 15 years as worked away and then kids and now self employed worried about injuries. Not played cricket for nearly 10 years. Nor cycled properly for 8 years.
The repetition and static nature isn't helping my flexibility. That's the key I need to exercise all of body to free up flexibility and shed the pounds.

I used to study people who work for the Post Office. Postmen and women never seemed to be over weight. It must come down to how much they walk. Then you look at bus drivers and lorry drivers and plenty are overweight.
Eating has alot to do with it. I buy bananas and keep them in the van and have one or two a day. Found out I have high blood sugar so dropped the diet coke for bottled water. My next van will have its own fridge so I can run with my lunch and save me time nipping into the shops everyday.

Swimming and cycling are good - especially if overweight.

Diet coke does NOT raise your blood sugar as there's no sugar in it in the first place...
The best thing you can do to get your blood sugar to stabilise is better diet and building muscle by regularly training and of course sticking to a good sleeping routine...
Muscles require a lot of glycogen which is basically sugar in the muscle so you have less floating round your blood stream

Rifle range most weekend they have a couple of meadows and wood for HFT and I also do some Pest control once a week on local farms and golf course in the evening.
So plenty of walking and carrying.

I’m guessing your doing night shooting with a .22 and lamp controlling rabbits on the golf course

A good breakfast should set you up for the morning and keep your blood sugar stable.....
Currently I usually have some jumbo overnight oats soaked in milk and thick Greek yoghurt,a bit of honey and either frozen blueberries,raspberries or cherries followed by 2 boiled eggs,tea and coffee. It's a winner!😋👍

It's both.
If managed well it's a great contributor to fitness. If not then RSi is certainly a factor.
Other cardio and strength activity is wise.

All the windies I have saw working with ladders seem to be slim. Haven't saw a Trad guy who is overweight yet. Don't think these people are attracted to the job because of all the physical work. Going up and down ladders all day is hard on the body and keeps you fit.
If we all went back to Trad for a day only then would we realise it.

I'm 15 years WFP and I feel better now than I did in the first few years of WFP.....
The problems with strain were varied and a combination of
Body not used to using poles after 17 years on ladders
Inferior equipment which included aluminium/fibreglass poles,heavy brushes and trolley systems
Working too many hours
Taking on too many add on jobs in one day/week.
After 9 years of regular strength training in the gym(I started back in 2016 aged 44)I've managed to build a significant amount of muscle all over but particularly in my mid/upper back/shoulders and it helps a lot in reducing strain esp at awkward angles.
My overall diet is much better and so is my sleep routine which should never be neglected.
Window cleaning is a healthy job working outdoors as long as your not working long hours IMO

I thought window cleaning was enough to keep me fit, until I started hitting the gym recently. The first session destroyed me, here I am a week later after 3 more sessions and every muscle in my body is killing me. It's quickly made me realise that this job isn't as hard on the body as I thought it was.

Something I would recommend for you bud is foundation training. Search for the original 10 minute foundation training video on YouTube.
It does wonders for your core and the first few times you do it you will really just how out of shape your core muscles are, it's tough to get through.
It's something I have done regularly for a couple of years as it helps with back pain and I now use it as my warm up before any gym/exercise.

Play tennis once a week and yoga forward bend before i go to bed. Really should do more yoga but am lazy.

Your body will quickly get used to it if your consistent and the DOMS will fade. Mind the gap.....
I've never had more than a week off at a time from training in 9 years of regular work outs.
